Oh, excellent, I've just begun my PGCE year at the top university in the country for my subject specialism, and have been a TA for a few years prior to... already I'm well aware that I'm in for a lot of stick from the general public. However, I'm still determined (currently) to be the best teacher I can be for as long as I can be... or as long as I can put up with the govt policies I suppose.

I'll just get my wine glass ready...

SPBisResisting · 01/10/2013 21:23

Teachers, (I am not one of you). Most of you are fabulous. There are the odd one or two I have met that are not so fabulous, but I expect those ones annoy the decent teachers too. :)

dementedma · 01/10/2013 21:28

Don't get all the fuss about teachers, and I speak as someone whose parents were both teachers. There are great ones, good ones and shit ones, same as any other job.
Get over it.

stargirl1701 · 01/10/2013 21:29

Aye, we're not so popular on MN.

littlestgirlguide · 01/10/2013 21:30

As an ex-teacher and a current public sector worker worse union hasn't been strong enough to stop this government trashing my terms and conditions, I support the strikes. Good luck.

littlestgirlguide · 01/10/2013 21:30

*whose, not worse.

Not a teacher either but hats off and Wine to you

moustachio · 01/10/2013 21:34

dementedma I agree. Same as nurses. You're not a superhero. THere are those that go above and beyond, there are an equal amount that are terrible, just like most jobs.

I'm so tired of justifying my job to people who know fuck all about education and haven't set foot inside a classroom since they left school themselves.

Normally these days I just totally let the shagging off go over my head, but the ignorance about the profession in the last few days (e.g. shall we fine the teachers for striking seeing as they fine us for unauthorised absence - or - if you have issues with your workload, why don't you speak to the people in charge instead of striking) has just made me Confused

imofftolisdoonvarna · 01/10/2013 21:37

*slagging not shagging!

BrianTheMole · 01/10/2013 21:38

gordyslovesheep · 01/10/2013 21:38

I don't understand the teacher bashing. I couldn't be a teacher-how do you do it?

My 2 DC have wonderful teachers.

Sorry if that's a bit arse licky. Sad

timidviper · 01/10/2013 21:44

Will this line up take place between 9 and 3 in termtime? That's the only hours they're at work dontcha know Grin

SPBisResisting · 01/10/2013 21:44

Ok here goes

I cant believe that despite all that lovely paid holiday you het you want ANOTHER day off to sit and relax. When you fine us parents when we have to take our children out of school for a funeral. And we all know you spend the fine money on cider. And the cleverer among you use it to top ip your GOLD PLATED pensions. And youre constantly expecting us to come in and DO STUFF never ebding list of drop child off, pick child up, parents' evening...who has the time for all that crap. And why wasnt my dd mary in the nativity play?! Huh? HUH?!

Spikeytree · 01/10/2013 21:45

Everyone thinks they know what teaching involves because they have been to school. Many people assume we just turn up at 8:45, bog off home at 3:30 and in between sit on our arses. This makes us a very easy target for Gove. He can call us lazy and claim we aren't interested in helping children achieve and people just think it's true.

I'm in the NW so haven't been on strike today, we had our day in June. I did however have a bit of a cry today when I thought about how I have to re-write three years worth of KS3 Schemes of Work before even thinking about new GCSEs and A Levels. I'm tired, I've actually given myself Tennis Elbow from highlighting levels when I'm marking and I've had enough.

Smartiepants79 · 01/10/2013 21:46

Sorry, didn't you know, because most people have been in a school at some point that means they know everything there is to know about it.
They could do your job simply because they once went to school.
Generalised bashing of any profession is not on.
There are even some nice journalists and politicians out there.....
