Oh and mymargaret, all jobs don't get stick - I have friend who work in marketing, sales, admin, etc and I've never seen threads on here about how shit, lazy and over paid they are, have you?

StitchingMoss · 02/10/2013 07:48

Friends!

SilverApples · 02/10/2013 07:52

I don't want thanking. Nor do I wish to have a boot up my arse online on a daily basis.
I say online, because IRL it doesn't happen to me.

SilverApples · 02/10/2013 07:54

mymargaret, I'll concede that some teachers moan too much if you accept that on MN, SAHMs do more complaining and whinging than the rest of the jobs represented here put together. Grin

fairylightsintheautumn · 02/10/2013 07:54

but nurses and the military don't get constant slagging off from everyone and his wife and told how to do their jobs by everyone who once went to the GP or went paintballing (which is the equivalent experience of going to school against actually being a teacher). That's why perhaps you hear teachers defending themselves more than other professions. We don't think we have it worst of all, we just seem to get attacked rather more, both en masse and individually. I got a complaint from a parent once because I didn't respond to her email within 2 hours - hmm, wonder why not, obviously I was sitting at a desk sipping tea and checking my emails every 5 mins and wasn't professional enough to reply...OR maybe, I was herding cats teenagers during a lunchduty and then, you know, teaching! FFS! As for the strike, it is unfortunate and I'm not sure it helps but I'm also not sure what alternatives there are any more. And Give shove his ideology up his arse if he thinks teachers don't care about children.

Nurses get slated for statw of nhs, not being clean, not like I it used to be. I work in a nursery Ive been called a cunt, threatened etc. All on the minimum wage or thereabouts. So what? Get over it.

I met my DD's teacher last night for first time and thought she was wonderful..have written a 3 page praising note in DD's communication book today :)

SilverApples · 02/10/2013 08:05

If I line up with my arse against the wall, no one can kick me in it, and I can practise my ferocious and intimidating teacher stare.
I'm in, OP.
Brought my Brew as well.

BelaLugosisShed · 02/10/2013 08:18

I'm here by proxy, my DD is an NQT , she teaches maths in a high school and her volume of work is massive, she's at her desk by 7.30 am and leaves at 5.30 pm and still ends up planning/marking at home.
I'm glad we talked her out of doing her Masters this year too.

She has however been graded as excellent in her first observation lesson.

Anyone who says that teachers have an easy ride will get a smack in the mouth from me.
Does anyone realise that they automatically pay 7% in pension contributions? I didn't until she showed me her first payslip - they'd also buggered up her tax code so she'd paid way too much tax.

harticus · 02/10/2013 10:30

Unfortunately my personal experience of all my slacker buddies who got to 30 and suddenly decided to train as teachers because they didn't know what the fuck else to do has coloured my opinion somewhat!
Cheers to all the good and dedicated ones - I know you get as hacked off with the lousy teachers as parents do.

SPBisResisting · 02/10/2013 11:03

Oh no im well behind on the bashing. Shuffle up a bit so I can do a few of you in one go.

Nurses are always in the news about how rubbish the state of the hospitals are etc. Which makes themlook like they are doing a bad job Just because its not on MN doesn't mean its not talked about. There is a whole world out there.
The military get there stick because people seem to think they are the uneducated few in society who had nothing better to do after school.
Quoting the marketing poster , so you've never had a cold caller and had a little moan to someone about how annoying they are? Or one of the specific threads in the pregnancy forum is to ban bounty reps in hospitals? While not directly attacking the individuals thats moaning about marketing.
If you looked for it you'd find it getting talked about. But you probably dont notice it because its not something that concerns you as such.
I'm just saying everyone gets stick, and at the moment it seems to be the turn of the teachers because its in the news! Next week it will probably be butchers because horse meat made it back into the flow of things or Lollipop ladies because they are too jolly!
