To think this should be illegal? (not at all light hearted and very, very serious)

Ok it might not be that serious.

Surely it has to be illegal to sell boxes of chocolates without a little guide with pictures telling you what each one is. Just got a posh box of chocs, list of fancy chocolate names on the outside, but no guide to which was which. So I unknowingly ate a coffee one, yuk, yuk, yuk. Surely there should be some kind of law to stop innocent people from accidentally eating the horror that is a coffee flavoured chocolate.

Right, back to my other first world problems now

I tape the map into the lid, can't risk losing it and having dark chocolate

Binkyridesagain · 01/10/2013 21:06

I had a box of thorntons at the weekend, it had 2 coffee choclates in and 2 Turkish delights, it ruined the whole evening, especially when I couldn't distinguish the Turkish delight from the fudge.

FFS if they insist on putting these abominations into the box they should make sure you can tell which is which.

ouryve · 01/10/2013 21:07

I always take one for the team and eat all the coffee ones.

Bloodsocks · 01/10/2013 21:08

Yanbu but you're eating them wrong. Just like I do with Revels so I don't eat a coffee by accident, you nibble a bit of the chocolate off first to test what it is.

morethanpotatoprints · 01/10/2013 21:10

Crunchy Frog anyone? You can't beat a bit of Monty Python and the chocolate sketch always makes me laugh. I can't link as my laptop refuses to download so if someone can do the honours, its very funny.

TheSlug · 01/10/2013 21:14

They've put coffee back into roses?! Grin Grin GrinI'm so excited. I bought a tin last week while they were £4 in tesco, intending to keep them for Christmas... But I may be tempted... Pregnancy cravings is a valid excuse, right?

Jux · 01/10/2013 21:16

You those houses you see for sale where it says POA? And if you need to ask, then you can't afford it.

So it is with Posh Chocs. If you need a guide, then they're not for you. Sorry.

(But you can send them to me, of course.)

starsandunicorns · 01/10/2013 21:17

This is why I go to and get a pic n mix and only get the toffees from quailty street they are tge ones I like since they changed the strawberry ones

thegraduand · 01/10/2013 21:18

jux think you may have hit the nail on the head.

Just had a very mixed bag, one Salted Caramel, was lovely, one marzipan, not good

I went to the Cadbury outlet store and got a whole big bag of odd roses, I was very excited until I realised 90% were ornate cremes! I was heavily pregnant and it made me sad. Hmm

RandallPinkFloyd · 01/10/2013 21:23

See, eating chocolates should be relaxing. You sound on edge. You shouldn't have to put up with these conditions.

#where'sthefuckingmap

Beastofburden · 01/10/2013 21:26

You have missed the point about having the list on the bottom of th box.

It's so you have to tip them all into your lap before you can read it. Obviously it would then be wrong to replace them.

Ignore those who say you could just photograph the bottom of the box with your phone and read the list from there. They have no understanding.

You can have the coffee if I can have all the caramels and marzipans and anything with a cherry in.

slightlysoupstained · 01/10/2013 21:30

All this talk of lost or nonexistent maps has made me realise there is a huge gap in the market.

We need an app. Take pic of choc, possibly identify the box (ideally you wouldn't have to), and it will consult its extensive database and tell you what it is.

Over time, it could even learn your preferences and just beep "drop the choc & back away" at you when you selected a dangerous item.

MN are running a course in building a mobile app this autumn. Anyone up for the challenge? Of course, populating the database might require some sacrifices.

thegraduand · 01/10/2013 21:35

Don't think I'll be any good at the progamming, but happy to do research in the cause of upholding MN's good name

OP posts:
SummerRain · 01/10/2013 21:37

beast, you can have the cherry ones and the caramels but we'll have to split the marzipan Wink

I can't tip the box up... I have issues and need the chocolates to be all neat and tidy and in their little hollows... I get angsty when someone has rummaged them all up and I have to root through and turn them the right way up to find the good ones

SelectAUserName · 01/10/2013 21:41

Coffee-flavoured chocolate. Why? I'm not judgmental but it's SICK AND WRONG.

Beastofburden · 01/10/2013 21:44

Ok, summer.

I am happy to test this app. I specialise in hotel chocolat.

MollyBerry · 01/10/2013 21:45

YANBU I can't even eat them if they don't put a menu as I have a nut allergy!

I agree with the chocolate identifying app - could we get MN tech on it?

mmmdonuts · 01/10/2013 21:46

YABU but to be fair half the fun of Revels is trying to pick out the toffee ones. Except when you get an orange/coffee one by mistake.

TheBuskersDog · 01/10/2013 21:59

What about the posh chocs which come with a map, they all look different and have fancy names but all taste the same, sort of rich and sickly.

ZingWantsCake · 01/10/2013 22:12

YANBU

sue them. send them to jail. dance on their graves.
that will learn them!Grin

slightlysoupstained · 01/10/2013 23:14

Ah but, thegraduand, the MN techmums course will have you dashing off apps in a most casual and debonair fashion.

It's for the good of the nation. Think how much distress could be avoided!

Darkesteyes · 01/10/2013 23:18

DH got the hump when they discontinued the coffee sweets from the Roses and when they discontinued the Peanut Cracknel from Quality Street.

NoComet · 01/10/2013 23:20

DD2 would agree 100%

hashtagwhatever · 01/10/2013 23:25

coffee flavour not so bad.

strawberry cream or turkish delight on the other hand, Bleurrrrgh.
