Is it unreasonable for them to have a break from screens while in car? Why do the BBC push it Simon much?

Cbeebies isn't the boss of you Grin

Because that's their job. To encourage your children to watch them all the time.

You're job is to say 'no.'

My child uses an iPad on long journeys. We don't watch TV. We do watch YouTube and DVDs. In 5 years, she's never seen a product advert.
See all that? It's called parental control and choice.
It's up to you what your child watches, whatever the TV says!

I didn't make the comment in relation to my child, she's too old for Cbeebies. Just felt concerned generally that pre-schoolers will end up so engrossed in their screens that they miss out on real life!

I don't think I'd trust my pre-schooler with my smartphone or tablet (if I had one)! I do find this advert a bit bizarre. At the moment my 4yo is happy enough to look out the window / chatter/sleep on long journeys. I think we try to fill their time too much sometimes - maybe because we're bad at just letting the time pass ourselves?
