To think that this woman was totally out of order?!

I was at a very busy cafe in a park today, lots of people, prams & dogs. Inside, through 2 doors is the little cake shop and the till and there's more than enough space for prams. (Mine is a double, and I've taken it in loads.)

My friend sat with our babies and I went in to get drinks -and cake--

The queue was really long, maybe 9 people, and only one server.

A lady runs in the door, says 'I've left my baby totally abandoned outside!! I need to queue jump!" Doesn't wait for an answer and goes to the till to order a cappuccino and some cake.

The queue was really slow and my baby can be a nightmare so gave up and went back outside to switch with my friend and saw the woman's pram, parked at the furthest table, all alone.

She could easily have taken it in, but seriously seemed to use her baby as a way to hold a table.

Ridiculous right??! Does anyone actually do this?

[shocked] yanbu that's shocking behaviour!

Calloh · 30/09/2013 14:09

What an irritating woman. YANBU. You must have felt so tempted to tell her what an idiot she was being.

Rebelrebel · 30/09/2013 14:12

well... you saved a table too. So her saving a table is neither here nor there. She then queue jumped, which is rude but she couldn't really leave the baby - if she had asked nicely you would have said yes, surely?

I always think table saving makes sense for the majority but it's tough on people who are there alone or with young kids so I don't see the problem with letting them go first really. I have been in a situation trying to manage a tray and a buggy and when people have jumped in to help I've been so grateful.

Just goes to show what having a 'brass neck' gets you.

YANBU.

Personally I couldn't sit and enjoy a coffee knowing half the cafe are now angrily glowering at me. But some have thicker skins than others ....

CailinDana · 30/09/2013 14:12

Total idiot.

zatyaballerina · 30/09/2013 14:13

Why did you let her jump in front of you? You could have told her there's room for her pram (and that she shouldn't be leaving a baby alone outside anyway). People like this take the piss (and endanger their children) because other people let them, if it annoys you, challenge the next one that tries it.

jacks365 · 30/09/2013 14:15

She didn't use her baby to save a table she used her baby to queue jump and everyone let her. If people get away with doing things like that they'll just continue.

picnicbasketcase · 30/09/2013 14:16

Cheeky dickhead behaviour.

drawsofdrawers · 30/09/2013 14:16

I would have got my phone out and loudly said "hello, is that social services? I'd like to report someone abandoning their baby."

HeySoulSister · 30/09/2013 14:18

She was being selfish.... Putting herself first

londonmum14 · 30/09/2013 14:29

The person behind the counter should have said that they had to join the end of the queue!

curiousgeorgie · 30/09/2013 14:52

A few people said you could have brought it in, but she didn't say anything back.

She was inside for maybe 5 minutes. Anything could happened. Someone could've taken her baby. For the sake of a coffee.

I am stupid. I wish I had actually said something to her. I hope she's on here.
