To NOT report this car? (Warning parking thread)

There is a car parked on our road that has not moved for months. It's not causing any obstruction. It's tax disc is 4 months out of date and it's got very flat tires. Some of my friends say I should 'report' it. I don't intend to, for one thing we live in forces housing and for all I know it's owner could be in Afghanistan or elsewhere abroad, I think it would be mean to report it.

Unless it's in a parking bay that belongs to the property?

Mojavewonderer · 29/09/2013 14:17

It happens a lot on married quarters, I think I have seen at least one abandoned car on every patch I've lived on and that's a lot! I've never reported it though and I don't care either as it's non of my business.

No it's just a road outside a row of terraced houses, a case of park where you can. It could belong to someone who had to go out of area at short notice and didn't have chance to sort anything out.

I know this is slightly different but our neighbours didn't cut their grass all summer, we never said anything and it turned out (they told us), that his friend who was going to do it for him was sent out of area at short notice and his wife's Dad had died so she was away and cutting the grass would have been the last thing on her mind. I mean that to show you don't know what's going on and I don't want to report the car because it might belong to someone who's having a hard time, and their car disappearing would be the last thing they need.

It might belong to someone who is having a hard time - or it could belong to just anyone.- or it could have been stolen and dumped. Married quarters are accessible to the wider public, so anyone could have dumped it there. If someone was really concerned about their car, they could ask a family member to deal with it. I would ask around your neighbours about it, but if no-one knows anything, I would report it.

They don't need to declare SORN if it is taxed though, do they?

Um, no. It's kind of an either/or deal.

OP stated the tax expired 4 months ago.

If it's forces housing, is the road it's parked on actually classified as Public Highway or is it a private road?

TidyDancer · 29/09/2013 15:20

You can check online if you have the registration number and the make of the car just to see if it's taxed and not displaying the disc, or if it's sorn.

If it the abandoned one opposite us, we have already reported it to the Guardroom, they did nothing.

We are on the Plain

It's not that one Shosha1 it's not actually inside the wire. Anyone can park on the road.
