It did seem cruel but I think most of it is fake so they were probably aware that it was going to happen anyway.

It is cruel, but I think they must know what's going to happen, that last girl on the chairs was holding hands with the young girl and before Nicole announced they let go of hands and have a look like they knew. Bloody stupid show, I can't believe I've been sucked in again, I vowed I wouldn't!

Agree, very odd this year and I don't like it. That poor girl from the Daisy Chains was encouraged to split with her friends and then still rejected, very cruel. I don't see how the judges can make a considered decision when put on the spot like that! My DC's also stay up for X factor, family night here too. They are normally gripped but both bored tonight and one resorted to reading the Argos catalogue!!

Has anyone read chart throb by Ben Elton? It explains how the show works, really dirty tactics.

Don't know what's going on in it this year as I stopped watching it last year, but know what you mean.
I stopped watching it because it was just getting so nasty.
Yes, there may be someone who is completely tone deaf and shouldn't be allowed to sing,EVER, but to literally burst out laughing and snigger behind your hands as they have their turn is disgusting, which is what they were doing when I last watched it.
Just no need whatsoever.
Bunch of bullying twats, and it makes uncomfortable watching so I haven't even entertained the idea of watching it this year, I've just switched right off andnot watched any of it.

Can't you tell it's staged? It's very obvious to me...

Report
thebody · 28/09/2013 23:28

yes I think it perhaps always was, but this year it's really nasty so the staging Is totally wrong.

this is not entertainment. it used to be but now it's not.

Yes I think this year is totally cruel with the who swapping seats thing but I have to admit I'm loving it, really on the edge of my seat, can't wait for tonight - think Nicole is a Valium addict (poor Lewis) - agree with older post that it's all staged and there's a lot of acting involved with the contestants, after all last years final 12 all had agents

Yanbu, we found it very uncomfortable viewing. I don't think I'll bother tuning in again.

Pre X Factor, the standard was gigging the arse of yourself and facing constant judging in the hope that someone, someday, would sign you.

X Factor is a fast track to fame and fortune. It looks like a hard life being rich and famous, constantly under the lens.....years of gigging prepares you. The X Factor cuts that out, but still.needs to weed out the weaker personalities.

Nicole gets on my tits the way she always gets up and gyrates. so full of herself. silly daft mare.

thought far too cruel last night. this wasn't the first round. they had been told they were through and then some got decision reversed.

horrible bullying.

Come on guys - it's all scripted after all. And the ones who are cajoled back are well paid. The last 3 girls last night were always going to get in because they were the better singers.

MortifiedAdams · 29/09/2013 18:49

They werent told they were through. They knew they werent safe til everyone had sung. Some of you are ever so dramatoc and pearl-clutchy.

The point is this show sends out the message that bullying is ok, Which is why i dont watch the shit unless im at my parents where my DM insists on watching it. Sad

Last year I decided that I wasn't going to watch anymore despite having watched from the start. Life still carried on :) So I'm not watching this year either.

Many music stars, have been heartbroken numerous times and its made them want to succeed further, its a tough industry and only the strong survive.

True, but they won't have had their humiliating rejections and heartbreak broadcast to the entire nation in the name of Saturday night light entertainment. For some of those people, this is their life's dream and we're watching, eagerly soaking up their misery. It's schadenfreude at its nastiest.

Never mind cruel, it's just crap this year. Last night's episode was put together really strangely - they were doing sing-offs, then suddenly the chair thing, then halfway through the overs chair thing it stopped.

It's obviously scripted, they know who they are going to put through before the chair thing. I spotted the girl in sparkly frock would get sent home as we had never seen her before.

Anyway, I have watched it from the beginning. Although I'm not making them any money as I record it to watch later (and skip adverts) and have never phoned up during a live show.

But I'm not watching it any more, I have decided it's taking over too much of my evening. Saturday and Sunday, and last night's went on for bloody ever.

Flobber I'm sorry but don't prompt a work of fiction as fact! Chart Throb is a great book, written some time ago now, in typical Ben Elton style, it's not factual and doesn't give you an insight! It's his style, just like the one about congestion, or the big brother parody or the Hollywood one. Entertaining but fictional.

no not pearl clutchy, or yes maybe I am if that means I don't enjoy ritual humiliation and bullying then glad to pearl clutch.
