To think if you pay £70 for passes you shouldn't have to pay extras ?

Went to a Holiday Site and paid the above for passes for 5 of us (2 adults , 2 children , would have been 3 adults but somebody had to pull out) , ,Passes are for entry to swimming pool, amusements, club house and dining areas . . Fair Do;s. However on top of that if the kids want to do archery , target shooting, aqua diving etc its extras . Considering we only ate out on site once , and went to one bar one night for karaoke and kids used them to get in the swimming pool Im a bit miffed about it . .

Butlins is really, really expensive for what it is btw. I always snort when people put it down as a 'cheap holiday' full of chavs and ner do wells.

There's a real mix of people there, to go in the school hols you're looking at around £800 just for a basic room. The entertainment is very good tho but seats are like gold dust.

NameyMcChanger · 28/09/2013 15:49

It's not a pass at Butlins chipping, it's just part of the holiday.

I agree tho, why didn't he just check ??. he was a bloody obnoxious sod tho If i'm paying a ton of money out I want to know what i'm getting !

skyeskyeskye · 28/09/2013 15:54

All holiday parks that provide those sorts of extras charge extra for them and it is always clearly shown in the brochure or website. I have been staying at these places for years. i always buy the passes because you have to show them to get into the swimming pool.

When we go away, we use the swimming pool every day, including the travelling days, so it is worth it.

BalloonSlayer · 28/09/2013 15:55

YANBU it pees me off when you go to Legoland and either cough up ££££££ to get in, or £££££££££££££££ for passes (we have passes) and then you still end up paying to park your frigging car. And I think you have to pay if you want to play the miniature golf. Why? That must be hugely cheaper to run than a rollercoaster.

And don't get me started on Chessington. You have to pay to park there too and it's not even a car park - just a bloody field with a tyre and suspension-knackering road covered in rocks. < seethe >

Hawkmoth · 28/09/2013 15:55

Hahahaha! Cunt

whois · 28/09/2013 16:02

Ah this is funny. OP I think YABU as it doesn't sound like particularly bad value if you all went swimming every day.

KateSMumsnet · 28/09/2013 16:34

Hello all,

We don't mind swearing, but we do mind personal attacks

mrsjay · 28/09/2013 16:47

these are entertainment passes the sporting activities are extra it tells you that when you book I am sorry you were dissapointed but they didnt hide anything from you

LeGavrOrf · 28/09/2013 17:15

It's a disgrace that you have to pay to park at legoland isn't it.

Bloody Norah at this thread though, what a car crash.

The OP only bloody grumbled, she didn't need archery accreditation information hurled at her. I don't blame her for thinking mumsnetters are a bunch of twats, frankly.

MrsMook · 28/09/2013 17:32

You plan your activities around what's avaliable at what price. Our last holiday had pre-paid swimming passes. I wasn't sure about the criteria about our 2yr old DS, and it turned out when we got there that he was free, so we had more sessions than we thought we needed. We used them up. I had a couple of early swims on my own, and we went as a family most days in the morning before heading off-site. We used it to burn DS out nicely on departure day before a long journey home in the car.

I can understand the likes of archery being extra because of the avaliabilty and training level of the instructors.

It's up to you to take advantage of what's free/ pre-paid or not.

Was this a Sun 9.50 holiday? Were you already upset at it not actually costing you 9.50? Grin

If the price you paid was an extra 70 quid and included entry to the swimming pool/entertainment complex would you mind that you have to pay extra for supervised activities? They separate the entertainment out because some people just use the caravans for a base and don't want to go swimming etc.

We've done Haven holidays before (mostly with The Sun) and find them good value for money. As mentioned above, when you break the price of the passes down per day it's comparable to your local leisure centre, for example.

The prices and what it includes is listed quite clearly on the websites and brochures. If you read the reviews on trip advisor and threads on these type of holidays on the mumsnet and MSE travel boards you will also get lots of useful information and advice.

I'm sorry you didn't have a good holiday, but you really need to do your research next time. The benefit of hindsight eh?

HoneyDragon · 28/09/2013 17:40

Can someone pass my pearls so I can clutch them, please?

I hate stealth bastarding "passes" that allow you to do next to fuck all. Op,
I do apologise on behalf of the others, they really uncouth fucking ingrates.

HoneyDragon · 28/09/2013 17:41

Oh and before I express any further opinion can so done provide and exact sum, for oodles?

WMittens · 28/09/2013 17:52

The OP only bloody grumbled, she didn't need archery accreditation information hurled at her.

I was trying to help her understand that when a business incurs extra costs, it usually passes those costs on to customers.

Is it fairer to increase the main ticket/pass price for everyone, and those who don't want to do those extra activities get a worse deal?

EduCated · 28/09/2013 17:54

YANBU, though it's fairly standard across most holiday parks.

Warwick Castle is fucking ridiculous. There's really not much to do there without forking out for loads of extras.

LeGavrOrf · 28/09/2013 17:56

Bloody hell at Warwick castle. I had no idea it was that expensive.

Viviennemary · 28/09/2013 17:58

Was it Centre Parcs. We went years ago and DH moaned about it being expensive and refused to go again. I think if all the charges are made clear in the brochure and when you book then it's fair because then you have the choice whether or not to go. If it's unclear then it's bad.

ShatnersBassoon · 28/09/2013 18:01

I don't understand. You paid for meals but went for only one of them? More fool you.

MrsSlocombe · 28/09/2013 18:02

assuming this thread is on the level, yes, it is annoying just how little the entertainment passes actually do cover, unless you/your family are keen on swimming!

MrsSlocombe · 28/09/2013 18:03

no, these passes don't cover meals, but in theory to be allowed the dubious privilege of eating at the overpriced rubbish onsite restaurants, you need to have the passes to be allowed in Hmm

LeGavrOrf · 28/09/2013 18:07

And the joys of the club house.

So you can have mini disco for screaming kids at 6, eyes down for bingo at 7 and the pleasures of a sub Bobby Davro comedian at 8. All the while surrounded by Christ knows how many arcade games and sweet dispensers. And families with smuggled vodka.

EduCated · 28/09/2013 18:11

One of the best things about becoming an adult was realising I was old enough to decide that I would NEVER have to go into a holiday park clubhouse again.

BuskersCat · 28/09/2013 18:12

is everyone on glue tonight?

LeGavrOrf · 28/09/2013 18:14

I never went when I was a kid, I chose to voluntarily go with my daughter. Just the once.

No wonder people get slaughtered in those places.
