I think I've posted this before, but anyway...

The building where I did my undergrad degree used to be a morgue. It had a long, narrow lift (for stretchers) and nobody liked working late there. There was a subterranean corridor linking it to another building and one night the swing doors at either end of the corridor started swinging madly and bashing off the walls. This went on for ages, nobody could work out why. There was nothing on the CCTV. The backshift janitor called another janitor over from another building but neither of them could work out what was happening. Together, they went down to the basement to have a look around. They would pull the doors closed, but when they walked away, they'd start swinging again. In the end, they called the police. The police witnessed all of this, but found no cause. It was officially put in the report as 'unexplained disturbance,' apparently. Around dawn, the doors stopped and they haven't done it again. I heard all this from the jannies, who I was pally with.

Apparently some brave students working late dafties have seen a little girl at night in the basement!

LittleMissGerardLouiseButler · 02/10/2013 21:32

Someone kindly put a link on Facebook to a ghost in a hotel with screaming sounds, really creepy!

LittleMissGerardLouiseButler · 02/10/2013 21:33

Think it's the sane one!

frizzcat · 02/10/2013 22:07

Yep that's it! And then a misty figure leaves the room

FatherHankTree · 02/10/2013 22:49

We live in a new build house, but weird stuff has happened. Within a few months of moving in, I heard a man's voice on the stairs (not DH, he was in the garden), and later the stereo switched itself off and then on again.

A beer bottle top slid across the work surface on its own; when DD and me were sitting downstairs, a beer bottle (yes, we drink too much) in the recycling box starting vibrating at a very rapid frequency.

I'd read stuff on here about asking it (not Pennywise, just an 'it') to stop and I did that and things are mostly ok. I still get freaked when the cat appears to look at things walking across the room. Stuff still moves around occasionally, I don't like it, but put up with it.

minesapintofwine · 02/10/2013 23:48

LEDKR. Fucking WHAT????? --why am I reading this in the dark late at night (under the covers)

GruffBillyGoat · 03/10/2013 09:37

Made myself paranoid reading this. Late night here and I finally convinced myself to get up to make a cuppa, made the dog come too. Left the kitchen and the dog sat in the doorway staring at something in the kitchen, thought she was watching the cat but then he walked up and sat next to her staring at the exact same spot. I distracted them, then 10 minutes later the dog is back staring at the exact same spot.

We lived in a new build when I was growing up and there used to be a grey figure that I would see. One day (midday) I saw him walk down the hall and in to one of the rooms. He wasn't scary at all but very odd.

Also we used to have a cat that would always comfort me when I was upset. After she died whenever I was upset in bed I would hear a purring coming from my closet, it was kind of comforting, the weird thing though was that it was not her purr she had a very distinct purr and it was far too normal for her. One day I told one of my friends about it and never heard it again. I still miss that purr.

just (within the last hour) had this conversation with my 3 year old son
(he speaks Welsh and English and hasn't worked out yet to just use one at a time, so translations for the Welsh bits are in brackets)

"mammy, a bit crying"
"you're not crying!"
"noooooooooooo, upstairs."
"you're not going upstairs now"
"nooo, upstairs a crying"
"no-one's crying upstairs"
"yes, a boy a crying upstairs. a bit sad."
"oh?"
"yes. he trist (sad). a crio (and crying)."
"pwy (who)?"
"he SCARED, mammy!"
"aaah, there's nothing to be scared of, is there?"
"he scared. a trist.... no be scared, ok? iawn (ok)? oh! yn mynd nawr (going now)"

oh dear

ProfondoRosso · 03/10/2013 15:40

Of fuck, LittleMissGerard, how I wish I could un-see that!!

Ledkr · 03/10/2013 15:43

Little miss. I reckon that's false as it didn't affect my cluster fear apart from slight itching.

AgentZigzag · 03/10/2013 15:53

After I'd been reading that fucking urban myths thread yesterday ebwy, 3 YO DD2 said she'd had a nightmare, that 'Daddy got run over by a lorry, and I was sad I couldn't sit on Daddy's knee any more Sad'

Shock

I went backpacking in the early nineties , beforehand, I went shopping and bought a fabulous scarf which I took with me. One day whilst driving, I noticed that my scarf had fallen out of my hair and was lost somewhere on the previous 30 miles of road. My friend and I commented frequently, throughout the following years travels ... 'that scarf would have gone lovely with that outfit ' yada yada yada ....
A year later I returned home in the October - it was cold and I immediately dug out my winter stuff I'd left behind.
Upon opening the suitcase lying on top was the scarf I'd lost whilst on holiday. I was freaked out - I'd bought it especially to take with me so there was no way I wouldn't of packed it. I remember wearing it a few times before it was lost - so did my friend...
I did manage to lose it again on my next holiday though - it ended up somewhere in Ibiza.
