If you bought something on ebay and found something valuable in a pocket that was likely left in there by mistake, what would you do?

Notify the seller and return it. They are probably very upset and searching for it. It's only right.

desperateforaholiday · 27/09/2013 20:55

I would contact the seller, its the right thing to do

redexpat · 27/09/2013 20:55

I'd contact the seller. I am a very firm believer in what goes around comes around.

notanyanymore · 27/09/2013 20:55

Notify the seller

Thanks for your responses - I am the seller who has just had that 'oh my' moment where I've realised what I've done. Have contacted the buyer who I just hope is as honest as you are. Was worried I would get people saying they would keep it ...

Nannyme1 · 27/09/2013 20:56

I'd contact seller... I would feel too guilty if I didn't!

2tiredtocare · 27/09/2013 20:57

What is it (nosy)

gamerchick · 27/09/2013 20:57

Yeah I would Contact the seller. I hope you get it back.

ShatnersBassoon · 27/09/2013 20:57

Let the seller know and get it back to them asap. Also is ask why they hadn't laundered it before selling Grin

ShatnersBassoon · 27/09/2013 20:59

Ah, missed the update.

ohmymimi · 27/09/2013 21:03

I do hope you get your precious item back. I once gave a coat to a Charity Shop with a valuable piece of jewelry in pocket and didn't realise what I had done 'til sometime after. I consoled myself with the fact It had gone to a good cause - I hope they got a good price for it!

It wasn't an item of clothing I sold hence why it wasn't washed - although seeing as I've missed it in the packing process I can't guarantee I'd have taken it out before washing! The worst bit is that it technically isn't mine, so it will have to be replaced (if it was mine I'd go without due to my stupidity). It will be in the region of £300, and I only made £15 on the item I sold it in :(

Could you not contact thru buyer? Say you will pay postage for them to send item back? Tell them it's not yours you are in a lot of trouble etc etc

teacherandguideleader · 27/09/2013 21:19

Quick update - the buyer has got back to me to say they have found it and will post on Monday. I refunded the cost of the item to them - will more than cover the cost of posting. I am sooooo relieved!

Smartphone?

Whoops. Well done you for realising where it was.

teacherandguideleader · 27/09/2013 21:25

Something along those lines, but used much less frequently. I am sooo stupid sometimes!

CoffeeTea103 · 27/09/2013 21:33

That's great! At least there are some really good honest people out there Smile

Allice · 27/09/2013 21:56

Really happy that you're getting it back.
