To complain about the way the cinema dealt with this man?

first ever post so be gentle please!

i went to the cinema with DP last night and during the film a guy collapsed while trying to leave. some others got to him before me so i didn't go to help as i didn't want to be in the way. the manager came, had a look at him left, came back then left again bring another manager in. they then stood looking at him. this lasted a good ten mins during which the film was still playing and no lights had been turned on despite the fact that the guy had not gotten up!

i went out to speak to someone and found one of the managers outside the room and explained that i was really worried that they had not turned on the lights or stopped the film. he told me it was ok as they had called an ambulance Hmm. i was a bit shocked as how did they know how serious it was etc without turning on the lights to see. he didn't respond only said that they had called an ambulance. i asked for his name (reluctantly given) and an address to write to complain as i felt that the way he was dealing with it was not right. the guy who had collapsed came out at this point and said he didn't want an ambulance and that he would leave. the other manager showed them to the sales desk for a refund then came back to talk to me. he said that they didn't stop the film or put on the lights as it meant sending someone to the projection room (i don't understand why this was a problem). and that he had a torch on his phone. there is no way he was using the torch as i was less than ten seats away and saw no light from teh area where teh guy was lying.

AIBU to send a letter of complaint in? i was so shaken that they didn't seem too bothered about whether he was bleeding or pale or anything really what if he had taken a stroke or something?! i honestly think they just didn't want to refund people for the film being stopped Sad.

god that was long well done if you made it this far!

If you could see everything from ten seats away, I'd guess they could see more from their closer position.

Is anyone else, who did try to help him, going to complain?

You didn't get involved at the time, so not quite sure why you feel the need to get involved now. I guess, perhaps, they could send you some free vouchers by way of apology Hmm

I'll be gentle but I do think YABU.

They were better placed to assess the situation than you, and they made a good judgement call based on what they saw.

I don't understand what you want to comp-lain about.

Erroneous -

i don't know i tried to catch the couple but they had left by the other doors. i was thinking more if the guy is feeling a bit better and wants to complain theres already a letter there backing up his story.

god i wouldn't want any free tickets or anything - it didn't harm me. i was just quite shocked that they didn't seem too bothered. guess all i was thinking was that they would maybe do it a bit better in the future.

Hmm...from past experience if you stop the film and put the lights up, half the audience will get up and try to leave, go and complain, etc even if told not to - which would mean trampling the guy lying in the (usually) sole exit and causing more problems - the procedure when i worked in a cinema (long time ago now) was to call an ambulance, administer first aid if; and only if, it it was by a trained first-aider and absolutely necessary, and at all costs stop an audience stampede, or string of gawpers and complainers (not suggesting you were either; OP!)

ThinkIveLostIt · 25/09/2013 12:12

ah i never thought about this MonsieurReynard all i could think was anything could have happened to that man and you cant see well too check. but what you've said is a point of view i hadn't considered
