to be pissed off with William Hill the bookmakers?

I have 16 stones of fat to lose. I want to place a special bet against myself with a bookmakers so I contacted 'Special Bets Department' at William Hill.

I am pissed off as there are so many people placing bets against themselves for weight loss now the maximum one can win is £2,500 to £3,000.

FFS I had around £1,000 to bet but doesn't matter as the maximum to win is as stated above.

Not going to pay for all my saggy skin removal is it?

Bastards

I didn't even know it was possible?

How on earth do they make money?

ruby1234 · 25/09/2013 11:10

Why not spread your bet around different bookmakers? You might win £3,000 off them all!

Good luck.

Thanks for the replies.

Would I be allowed to bet against myself at different Bookmakers?

I'm going to be rich, rich, rich beyond my widest dreams.

WH did say I HAVE to agree to be in the media before they pay out [hmm[ holding a massive pair of jeans or something.

Laurie I asked this too and apparently most people do not reach their goal weight.

I have just text to ask WH if going to other bookmakers to place the same bet would be OK.

Why not put it in an account that someone you trust implicitly has access to instead of you and then once you reach your goal have them withdraw it for you to spend on a nice holiday/new wardrobe/jewellery.

Bogeyface · 25/09/2013 18:26

What a fecking stupid idea!

WeightyWoman · 25/09/2013 18:44

Making money is never stupid unless you're you

Making money isnt stupid.

Gambling money is always stupid.

JenaiMorris · 25/09/2013 22:03

Gambling £x isn't any more stupid than spending £x on any other frivolity - as long as you can afford it and you understand that the likelihood is that you'll never see that money again.

OP, the bookies have used algorithms they're happy with to calculate the chances of them keeping your stake. That is all there is to it.

YANBU to feel disappointed that you won't make millions by losing weight, but that doesn't mean William Hill are bastards. They might be bastards of course, but not for the reasons you've stated.
