Why is it that......

....OP's single out the only supporting comment on multiple page threads, to say thank you for being "the only sensible response" or "the lone sane voice in the wilderness"???

It is driving me nuts!!
If umpteen people have come onto a thread and said the OP is being a banana....they are probably a banana!! Just because ONE nutcase person turns up (usually on about page 5) and agrees with them, doesn't mean they are right.
So why only listen to the person who agrees with you?
What is the point of posting a question in the first place?

Am I the only person that thinks if 9 out of 10 MN'ers think you are a prat, you should listen to them and not the only other prat on the thread?

I agree in essence however there's often a pack mentality at play where all it takes is for one person to go against what might appear to be a unanimous yanbu/yabu and others follow.

hiddenhome · 24/09/2013 17:35

You're joking right?

Editededition · 24/09/2013 17:36

I don't disagree Oh - surely the whole point of being here is the variety of opinion, but when it is a case of only one or two in agreement and pages of people disagreeing (with reasoned aforethought) ..... I just want to scream "why ask in the first place"!!!!!

And do Sad

So, what you're saying is that minority opinions are always wrong?

Also an idea to consider that the masses frequently pick up on something that wasn't actually the question (one example being if benefits are mentioned for any reason, the masses discuss the wider issues associated with benefits...I'm sure we've all seen one of these) and it can sometimes be the small minority who answer the question rather than comment on the supporting facts.

SoleSource · 24/09/2013 18:30

Err I'm on benefits Jolleigh, what you saying? Hmm

Jolleigh · 24/09/2013 18:31

Grin nicely done Sole

SoleSource · 24/09/2013 18:34
Grin

Really wanna jazz this place up a bit

AIBU to have knocked a woman and her pushchair flying in Tesco car park today cuz she was in me disabled parking space?

Jolleigh · 24/09/2013 18:41

Did you stop to check if she's disabled first? Wink

SaucyJack · 24/09/2013 18:42

If she wasn't disabled first.... she will be now you've run her over.

SoleSource · 24/09/2013 18:46

Yeah another scrounger on our streets...

Fink of me having to go to work whilst they fake Autism and blindness

Editededition · 24/09/2013 18:56

I wasn't really thinking of threads that head off at a tangent (which are probably the most entertaining!)...more the ones that disappear up their own rears muttering 'knew I was right'.

Of course there is a place for minority opinion. Obviously when its mine Grin Grin Grin

numbum · 24/09/2013 18:59

I know what you mean OP. The ones where the OP gets a usually deserved bashing, the OP then disappears until someone says 'I agree with you OP'. Then the OP comes back to thank aforementioned for agreeing with them and completely ignores the other 50 posters?

Gets on my tits too

ImTooHecsyForYourParty · 24/09/2013 19:01

Well, OPs don't have to listen to anyone. Asking for opinions is exactly that. It doesn't obligate you to agree with them. Grin although if 999 people think you're wrong and 1 thinks you're right, you may well be, but that's not the smart bet to place Grin

I think that sometimes people come on not because they actually want to hear opinions or indeed are willing to listen or perhaps even change their pov - they just wants someone, anyone, to agree with them. I think it's called 'Validation'. So when they get that one person who says yes, I agree with you, shaving your head and getting WANKER tattooed across your forehead then going to the palace and nutting the queen is a truly brilliant idea with no possible drawbacks - they close their eyes and their mind to all other contributions.

If this is a TAAT, then I haven't got a clue which one, or who was right or wrong or batcrap crazy.

Jolleigh · 24/09/2013 19:06

Nutting the queen? Obviously a brilliant idea, though I'm not sure there'd be no repercussions Smile Did make me giggle that.

OP - maybe people are ok being the minority providing they're not the only person in that minority?

Editededition · 24/09/2013 19:07

That makes sense Hecsy. Really hadn't stopped to think about batshit validation - but it does fit.

I wouldn't dreeeeeam of starting a TAAT Grin

If umpteen people have come onto a thread and said the OP is being a banana....they are probably a banana!!

Made me think of:
"The first time someone calls you a horse you punch him on the nose, the second time someone calls you a horse you call him a jerk but the third time someone calls you a horse, well then perhaps it's time to go shopping for a saddle."

FunnysInLaJardin · 24/09/2013 20:26

it is AIBU, if you are posting in this section you most likely are and so unlikely to agree with those who say you are. The clue is in the name. Otherwise you'd post in chat. Plus thats the fun of this topic. Plus I for one hate defeat Grin
