To buy a double pushchair? (Only have one baby, trying for 2nd soon)

I have two dc (one older so no issue) but we're going to start trying for dc3 in a few months. I fell pregnant very quickly with my first two, but worry that I'm tempting fate if I buy one before I'm actually pregnant.

The reason I'm thinking of getting one is that the perfect one has come up on ebay, it's reasonably priced and the seller is local. It's currently £150 with no bids but to buy new with all the bits I would need, I'd be spending nearer £1000 (and that's way out of my price range).

AI not BU to buy to buy it now and try and grab a bargain or AIBU to tempt fate by buying a pushchair for a child that is currently only conceived in our imagination! Asking on here because I know OH will think I'm daft for getting it (but if I don't and all works out with dc3 he'll say 'You should have just got it!').

How old is dc2 now?

Footface · 22/09/2013 22:42

Can you use it as a single for dc2

Sirzy · 22/09/2013 22:43

Personally I think you are mad if you do. I am sure other bargains will come along when you are pregnant.

BonaDrag · 22/09/2013 22:43

I wouldn't, but then I'm riddled with Catholic superstition.

If you're of a more logical persuasion, then it seems reasonable to take advantage of the bargain now.

Wiggy29 · 22/09/2013 22:44

DC2 is 7 months, trying for dc3 in 4 months (fell pregnant without trying for dc1 and first month for dc2). I can't use it as a single but already have the single I used for dc1&2.

Do you think you could sell it for a similar amount if you don't get to use it?

Wiggy29 · 22/09/2013 22:48

I'm assuming so, most of them seem to go for quite a bit more on ebay. No guarantees though. Hmm

Think of it as an investment then :o

jacks365 · 22/09/2013 22:50

I wouldn't get it then. You are talking atvleast 20 months between them so dc2 may well be walking everywhere by then. My eldest are 19 months apart for the rare occasions that dd1 wanted to go in the pushchair I had a carrier in the changing bag for dd2. It worked well for me. Dd4 who is 22months will no longer go in the pushchair and wants to walk everywhere. You'll be able to judge if you need closer to the time of dc3 birth.

MoneyMug · 22/09/2013 22:51

I would get it. If you don't end up using it, you can sell it.

jacks365 · 22/09/2013 22:53

Wiggy one other thing I bought one and tried to buy other prams off ebay if they are any good they fly up in price at the last minute so that current £150 may go to £450.

Wiggy29 · 22/09/2013 22:57

Mmmm, good point Jacks, I think I'll wait and see what happens. DC1 wanted to walk all the time pretty early but I'm aware there may still be times when they're sleepy etc and want to sleep/ rest (we tend to go for giant walks on a weekend).

Will wait and see what it goes to nearer the time, thanks for the advice. Smile

I wouldn't either, but then I suffered from secondary infertility after getting pregnant the first month with my first child.

Drinkprunesbutstaynexttotheloo · 22/09/2013 23:51

It won't make a difference to how long it takes to have a successful pregnancy this time, but you may come to resent it if it takes you longer than you hope, or it may not be so useful for your dcs either.

Have you room to store it, somewhere you won't have to look at it all the time?

My dc2 took two years longer to get here than he was supposed to, removing the need for a double altogether :)
