to not want the lid of the kitchen bin

on my worktop? My DH is great around the house and always empties the kitchen bin, but he always takes the lid off and puts it on the worktop while he removes the bag. It doesn't matter how many times I tell him, he does it everytime and he doesn't then disinfect the worktop afterwards. AIBU or is he?

Urgh yuck. YANBU. It should go on the floor. My DH doesn't empty the bin until it's overflowing, even if it starts to smell. He will do it when told though.

shewhowines · 21/09/2013 17:35

I'm with you on this one. YANBU.

I don't even like closing the lid because I feel like washing my hands everytime I close it. Disclaimer - not like this with other things. Just have grown up with the idea that "bins are dirty"

DontPanicMrMannering · 21/09/2013 17:37

Ew yuk! DH leaves the bin lid open every bloody night drives me bonkers to come down to the smell of bin in a morning argh

Justforlaughs · 21/09/2013 18:02

HungryHorace · 21/09/2013 20:29

Dontpanic, I'm constantly closing the bloody kitchen bin Lin after DH has left it open. Drives me mental!

HungryHorace · 21/09/2013 20:30

Lid, clearly!

valiumredhead · 21/09/2013 20:44

If it bothers you that much and off he can't break the habit then buy a pedal bin?

maras2 · 21/09/2013 22:08

What on earth do you put in the bin to make it so unhygienic that the lid needs special attention ?

SilveryMoon · 21/09/2013 22:10

My dp does this too, no matter how many times I told him, the lid can go on the floor when emptying the bin, not the counter, he still did it. I've told him not to empty the rubbish anymore.

Justforlaughs · 21/09/2013 22:15

Oooh! SilveryMoon I'm not going that far! Grin I'd rather disinfect the worktop than carry the bin bags out! Wink

It depends what's on it - presumably most of the stuff in your bin was on your kitchen counter at one point and the lid barely touches it so it wouldn't bother me that much.
