To not give DM a ring

I buy and sell jewellery. This morning I picked up three antique diamond rings I'd bought online and dropped in to see DM, who asked to see them. She immediately took a shine to one and put it on and kept it on for the duration of my visit (it only fits her little finger and looked stupid). She didn't ask for it, but we both knew she wanted it. Giving it to her would have cost me about £70, which I can afford, but not in any way easily. So I didn't offer it either, took it back, and went home.

Now I feel really guilty for not giving her the stupid ring. AIBU?

I presume you're a business and not a charity.

I wouldn't feel guilty. What if she did this every time you had new stock?

Can you save it and give as a birthday or Christmas present?

simpleth1ngs · 21/09/2013 11:48

I could fanjo but she'd have forgotten about it and be underwhelmed. She seems to think I am a millionaire and has looked down on far bigger presents, so as I'll have to get her something big like a trip away, I'd rather not throw in an extra £70 I can't afford too...

Well it sounds like you need to get off the whole present bandwagon.

Confused you buy her a trip.away for christmas or birthday?! What happened to flowers and pjs?

I may have created a rod for my own back. DP says she's spoilt. But DH has passed away and I am the only child so I do feel responsible...

She didn't ask for it, you didn't offer it. IT's a non-issue, forget about it.

"so as I'll have to get her something big like a trip away,"Hmm

How sad that that's how you feel & that she expects it.

Tbh if you buy her weekends away as a birthday gift.its no.wonder she assumed you were flush enough to just let her have tge ring.
