... Full of Poe-faced and negative people at the moment?

I'd like to see a bit more "hey, why not try it?" And "it's no big deal" than "no way on earth would I... " and "how could you even conceive of..."

I used to come on here for nurturing advice, a different point of view and to laugh til tea came out of my nose.

Now I feel much more negative after an hour a few minutes mumsnetting.

On all the boards or just AIBU?

MN doesn't have a reputation as a nest of vipers for being nurturing.
It would be a dull place if no-one aired their opinion.

I do see what you mean, but I like MN for the varied opinions. If I wanted 'you know your bub's Hun' I'd be on.......another well known parenting site.

If you feel negative after an hour, I'd probably suggest you were looking in the wrong places :)

You want to see more nurturing and less negativity so you start a negative thread..

Maybe you ought to join in on some of the nurturing threads.

Some posters are going through bereavement, life limiting illnesses or coping with difficult situations in their home life. Read some of those threads and see how many posters are crowding in to offer help, support or just be there to listen at all hours of the day or night.

Then come back and tell us that it isn't nurturing...

AIBU is full of complete arseholes that seem to delight in dishing out unsympathetic and unsupportive jabs at anyone who dares to post, so you're not wrong there. But most of the rest of it is full of lovelies who deserve .

If you don't like MN at the moment, you could either try other sites (loads out there, maybe you'll feel more at home elsewhere).

Or start the threads you want to see.

AIBU is always disheartening and full of shits. Spend time purusing the other boards, especially Chat

Thing is I've been coming here for years and years and I certainly wouldn't want those bloody tickers and all that nonsense and - eeew- touching that goes on elsewhere.

I think it's the Active Convos button that is doing my nut in. It takes me to AIBU way too much and not nearly often enough to spinal columns, fanjos etc.

AIBU used to be a bit sarky, but it is unremittingly negative at the mo. I remember when all this was trees....

And oh, re Poe-faced, I'm not saying I did it on purpose, but I did wonder if it was right, but left it in as it was apt either way. not a total fucking philistine you know emoticon.

You can customise your topics, so you don't have certain topics popping up in active convos. Use customise at top or bottom of the page.

Try hiding AIBU for a month? See how MN is without it, reintroduce if you find you're having excessive withdrawal symptoms.

As well as all the above advice...I've got to say the Special Needs boards are full of folks propping each other up through difficult situations. Posters there are very nurturing towards each other....we all recognise that we're, more or less, in the same boat.

Also I have witnessed posters on threads about family emergencies and bereavements being very caring indeed...

Just saying....

I do frequent the SN boards but like to go elsewhere for light relief/entertainment - it's just not feeling that light ATM. Will hide AIBu (can I do it on the phone...?)
