It riles me that I donate £3 by txt for a cause, then they batter me with calls daily to get me to become a monthly donator. I've just recently had to stop all my charitable donations for cash flow reasons. I feel I should be able to do a one off donation and the be left alone???

There should be an option to opt out of the crappy marketing texts. Maybe check their website?

DameDeepRedBetty · 11/09/2013 23:45

Are they ringing or texting?

AngelsLieToKeepControl · 11/09/2013 23:50

They all do it. Its bloody annoying. They spend more than the original donation trying to get more money.

The worst one I had was when I called the RSPCA about a cat and some kittens I found, they said they couldn't do anything but if I left them to starve and get ill then they would.

2 weeks later they called asking me for money for their 'help' I asked how they got my number as it was a call centre, and the guy told me the RSPCA passed it on. I was fuming.

Ringing once a day. I've told them now to not phone, but they shouldn't do it in the 1st place.

I knew what this would be about before I opened the thread. The same thing happened to me after I donated money during the Robbie Williams charity football match. Got plagued for ages. Unfortunately it's meant I am reluctant to donate under those circumstances again.

BrokenSunglasses · 12/09/2013 08:11

I agree that many charities do it unfortunately.

Apparently it works for them at the moment because even though they know it annoys people, it is still worth it in terms of the money it brings in. I wonder how long that will last though, as eventually people will cotton on and their good will will run out. I'd guess that in the long term, charities will harm themselves by doing this, there are a lot of people who are now reluctant to either give once or make a direct debit, because there is no way of getting away from the hassle that it brings.

Happened to me too! Not answering numbers like that anymore. Wish I'd never donated now..
