To leave a workman in my house alone?

If you are comfy to do so then do.

I wouldn't leave one unless it was someone I knew unless i had no choice. If it was work going on for more than a few days though you would have no choice in the matter I guess!

Of course!

Of course YANBU to leave a workman in your home whilst you go out. You obviously trust them if they are there in the first place.

We've had different ones in all week, we've someone in the kitchen right now. I'm going to have to go out and get lunch for the toddler so its unavoidable.

Its hard sitting around 'staying out of the way' in my own home and trying to keep the toddler away from tools and machines while listening to workmen huff and puff anyway.

Ive had to go out to give dd lunch and take her nursery. Its my first time in having to do things like dealing with workmen on my own!
