To detest most scouse celebrities

Afroturf · 07/09/2013 14:59

Cilla Black, Paul McCartney, Jimmy Tarbuck et al - celebrities who take every opportunity to remind us about their days in Scottie Road and all who, coincidentally, moved away from the city years ago.

What fake accents....I have never heard anyone else speak with Cilla Black's particular accent.

And now bloody Les Dennis has reared his head. God, how I've loathed him on Celebrity Masterchef - another one harking back about 'me Mam and Dad in Liverpool'. Fuck off. He was on radio 2 this morning with Rhod Gilbert and, my word, what a fucking name dropping twat. It was embarrassing.

I am not a fan.

Now I must mention that I'm from Liverpool, a city I love and live in today. I can't, however, abide these 'professional scousers' who go on and on about where they're from. Perhaps it's to try and fool us plebs that they are one of us. Again, do fuck off.

I don't want this thread to descend into an anti-Liverpool rant as my city is a very special place but wonder if anyone agrees with me. I think it's probably the fact that they come from the same place as me that I have a particular distain for them. I dare say that slebs from other parts of the UK annoy folk from their neck of the woods too.

In fact, Matalan is from Liverpool!

BOF · 07/09/2013 21:25

Can I nominate Crissy Rock for the BANNED list?

squoosh · 07/09/2013 21:27

What about the famous Scouse wags, Abbey Clancy and Alex Thingumy?

SwedishEdith · 07/09/2013 21:28

y,y, agree that Brookside is responsible for that type of "Scouse" accent. Older people from Liverpool never seemed to speak like that

BOF · 07/09/2013 21:28

And for the dead-but-great list, Rex Harrison! I'd forgotten him.

Did you all know that Michael Jackson was actually born in Liverpool?

SwedishEdith · 07/09/2013 21:34

Simon Rattle on the acceptable list, surely.

TooTabooToBoo · 07/09/2013 21:34

No he wasn't?? Really?

TheWoollybacksWife · 07/09/2013 21:36

I used to work in the council offices in Dale Street. I was on a bus going to work one morning that passed Pete Postlethwaite taking a morning constitutional past St. John's market. rock and roll, me

I think Pete Postlethwaite was a brilliant actor but cannot for the life of me recall a film where his character was still alive at the end credits.

BOF · 07/09/2013 21:37

No word of a lie Wink

yy, Simon Rattle very acceptable.

Mistyshore · 07/09/2013 21:37

My nan was from West Derby, she had a beautiful speaking voice and pronounced every letter. She had an old school Liverpudlian accent that was nothing like the lazy accent used by the young.

BOF · 07/09/2013 21:38

That's me, Mistyshore. An old lady accent Grin

LaGuardia · 07/09/2013 21:41

When I hear the Scouse accent my ears shut down automatically.

BOF · 07/09/2013 21:42

Ah, I'll wager you are not hearing genuine old-school Scouse, LaGuardia, which should be soft and mellifluous.

frizzcat · 07/09/2013 21:47

thewooley he was alive at the end of The Usual Suspects

frizzcat · 07/09/2013 21:51

BOF Grin
I take it you mean the actor Michael J Jackson

The other one was definitely born in the US

UserError · 07/09/2013 21:52

Alex Curran, now Alex Gerrard, you mean? I don't like her, but that is because we grew up on the same street and she was horrible to me as a child.

Heidi Range from the Sugababes and Neil Buchanan are acceptable. All of the above are from Aintree.

BOF · 07/09/2013 21:53

You got me Grin

auntpetunia · 07/09/2013 21:54

Pick a McGann any McCann... Paul,Joe, mark or Stephen. All proper scousers born in Kenny!

BOF · 07/09/2013 21:55

Oh, Alex Eyebrow is a HORROR. Heidi Range is a nice girl, from what I've heard. Colette Rooney comes from a nice family. Wayne, on the other hand, not so much...

BOF · 07/09/2013 21:56

And don't even go there with Amanda Harrington. Awful, just awful.

TooTabooToBoo · 07/09/2013 21:59

Ah, just thought. For "real" accent, see Ken Dodd.

UserError · 07/09/2013 21:59

Heidi is lovely. She is friends with my sister's friend's older sister. If you can follow that... Grin

EstelleGetty · 07/09/2013 21:59

Oh I love a gentle Scouse accent, I could listen to one for ages. Agree with all the Paul O'Grady fans - he's lovely.

I'm Glaswegian and cannot stand ham-it-up professional Glaswegians in the public eye. I do tend to find most of the folk who go on and on and on about "ah'm fae Glasgow" have perhaps only lived here for 2 years. The rest of us are not that fussed.

TooTabooToBoo · 07/09/2013 22:00

BOF! I am so gullible Blush

frizzcat · 07/09/2013 22:13

usererror yeah I've heard a few rumours about Alex Gerard, none of them positive

Can someone cuff me round the ear? I'm not even from Liverpool and here I am jumping in like a local!

Can't help it I'm invested now, plus I really do hate Cilla Black and John Bishop and Jimmy "I've played golf with the stars" Tarbuck. Every time he's on the tele - it's all about crap golf stories about that time he played golf with "big Sean Connery"! Jimmy my man, nobody gives a flying fuck.

And Cilla - it's those evil eyes and the "Lorra, Lorra laughs". Oh and that show "surprise surprise" (can't even be bothered to put the caps in, doesn't warrant the effort), when she used to walk through the streets somewhere with big shoulder pads and a brass band bloody singing.
Actually my dad hated her so much when I was growing up and especially "surprise surprise" when the singing started. He'd be running around tearing the living room apart looking for the remote - and the language would have made a sailor blush ...... Never occurred to him to manually switch the channel, although he did actually turn off mains electricity switch because he couldn't cope with Cilla anymore and "if he had to suffer then we all would" Grin
