To detest most scouse celebrities

Afroturf · 07/09/2013 14:59

Cilla Black, Paul McCartney, Jimmy Tarbuck et al - celebrities who take every opportunity to remind us about their days in Scottie Road and all who, coincidentally, moved away from the city years ago.

What fake accents....I have never heard anyone else speak with Cilla Black's particular accent.

And now bloody Les Dennis has reared his head. God, how I've loathed him on Celebrity Masterchef - another one harking back about 'me Mam and Dad in Liverpool'. Fuck off. He was on radio 2 this morning with Rhod Gilbert and, my word, what a fucking name dropping twat. It was embarrassing.

I am not a fan.

Now I must mention that I'm from Liverpool, a city I love and live in today. I can't, however, abide these 'professional scousers' who go on and on about where they're from. Perhaps it's to try and fool us plebs that they are one of us. Again, do fuck off.

I don't want this thread to descend into an anti-Liverpool rant as my city is a very special place but wonder if anyone agrees with me. I think it's probably the fact that they come from the same place as me that I have a particular distain for them. I dare say that slebs from other parts of the UK annoy folk from their neck of the woods too.

Me too, the that always sticks in my throat is Glenda Jackson - especially as I can remember her younger sister Andrea living in the next road to us in Hoylake. She grew up there, too.

David Hunt - once Sec of State for Wales had a house in the next road to Glenda, and Selwyn Lloyd the next road again. Neither of those 2 were ever professional scousers.

Growlithe: Hanover Street Social for your meal. The Shipping Forecast for a chilled drink.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 09/09/2013 18:24

My fave place for lunch was Cafe Tabac - I started my obsession for Taramasalata there !

Growlithe · 09/09/2013 18:30

I think we are going to the Hanover Street Social, as soon as I read it I remembered it being recommended last year by a couple of school mums. DH is saying there are a few bars round there he wants to try too. Cheers Curly.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 09/09/2013 19:02

The Hub adjoins the Hanover Street Social and you could just go there for a drink but it gets rammed on a Saturday and if you're anything like me you probably prefer to have a seat in a pub these days. Grin

Growlithe · 09/09/2013 19:27

Curly not only prefer to, but whine till I get a seat. Grin

I'm not bothered about being called a scouser that's how I would describe myself I just don't like the way people from outside of liverpool (such as Wirral, ormskirk, southport etc) are called scousers they are bloody well not!! Confused

AngryBeaver · 09/09/2013 20:52

I'm originally from Ormskirk (well, Aughton) grandad was a Walton boy who moved us further and further out the better his business did.
Although, he worked on the Docks all his life.
His varying accents made me laugh my head off.

Ridiculous faux posh "work" accent, and the real one!

My mum speaks quite posh, but my brother and I have mild scouse accents (especially when pissed/angry) I live in NZ now, and people still ask if I'm a scouser.

AngryBeaver · 09/09/2013 20:56

Scoosels...but only people from Liverpool know/care. The accent is what people pick up on.
I wouldn't say I'm a scouser (although I was born in merseyside) but people hear the accent and say it, along with "ey ey ey, calm down" and I can't be arsed explaining the geography every time.

I just say Liverpool's my nearest city.

elcranko · 10/09/2013 07:07

I live by the giro but remember once getting called a wool by a boy from Walton because I didn't have a purple wheelie bin. Hmm

AngryBeaver · 10/09/2013 07:51

I lusted after purple wheelies Hmm

gordyslovesheep · 10/09/2013 08:27

I loved cafe tabac in my youth and news from nowhere which has moved next door to it now I think. I used to work in the nalgo bar next to radio city

As a kid I woke up every morning to uncle Norman Thomas!

bottleofbeer · 10/09/2013 08:37

Yeah I've had the Wool thing because I don't have purple wheeliebins.

I have an L postcode and if I stood on top of my house I could see the Liver Birds and Radio City tower.

What's the Maghull post code? Maghull is a difficult one. It's getting on for Ormskirk way isn't it?

bottleofbeer · 10/09/2013 09:44

It's L31 within the borough of Sefton, so it is indeed in Liverpool. Official, like :)

I'm from South Liverpool and have lived in the Midlands for 15 years. I don't mind the term as scouser; PC term would be Liverpudlian.

I agree with you about the plazzy scousers.

I went to the same school as the Amoo children, Sharp/Serafinowicz siblings.

Jamie Rednapp is from dahn sarff.

I agree with Hub, Hanover Street Social and Tabac. I recommend Salthouse Tapas, Leaf (on Bold Street), Puschka (Rodney Street) and Spire in Allerton.

I'm self employed and about to start a contract in Birmingham. I'm getting my Hmm ready for all the 'jokes' about stealing and people attempting a scouse accent. Twats usually trot out a high pitch Harry Enfield scouser. I HATE HARRY ENFIELD.

Growlithe · 10/09/2013 10:15

For the wools with wheelie bin envy - Get On This

bottleofbeer · 10/09/2013 10:19

You're a scouser.

bottleofbeer · 10/09/2013 10:20

I'd buy that little wheelie bin right now if it was just a mini bin. The caption on it ruins it because it's too touristy which would be weird because I live here.

I am buying that exotic Wirral 2014 calendar though.

Growlithe · 10/09/2013 10:23

I live on the Wirral now and believe it or not that is not the first Wirral Calendar I've seen.

bottleofbeer · 10/09/2013 11:02

Ohhh you went over to the dark side?

bites fist god bless you!

elcranko · 10/09/2013 11:23

If I leave my house and walk for five minutes I reach the City of Liverpool - Walton sign. If I do that now then would it be acceptable for me to order that mini purple wheelie bin?
