To detest most scouse celebrities

Afroturf · 07/09/2013 14:59

Cilla Black, Paul McCartney, Jimmy Tarbuck et al - celebrities who take every opportunity to remind us about their days in Scottie Road and all who, coincidentally, moved away from the city years ago.

What fake accents....I have never heard anyone else speak with Cilla Black's particular accent.

And now bloody Les Dennis has reared his head. God, how I've loathed him on Celebrity Masterchef - another one harking back about 'me Mam and Dad in Liverpool'. Fuck off. He was on radio 2 this morning with Rhod Gilbert and, my word, what a fucking name dropping twat. It was embarrassing.

I am not a fan.

Now I must mention that I'm from Liverpool, a city I love and live in today. I can't, however, abide these 'professional scousers' who go on and on about where they're from. Perhaps it's to try and fool us plebs that they are one of us. Again, do fuck off.

I don't want this thread to descend into an anti-Liverpool rant as my city is a very special place but wonder if anyone agrees with me. I think it's probably the fact that they come from the same place as me that I have a particular distain for them. I dare say that slebs from other parts of the UK annoy folk from their neck of the woods too.

Well, we're very genteel people!

Yes Hope, Crosby Village used to be where it was all at. There's nothing there now.

Two South Road rules. Never go into The Alex. And only attempt The Old Bank when already pissed :)

KoalaFace · 07/09/2013 17:48

pokesandprods I should have known that Blush

I went to 6th Form in Crosby and loved a bit of South Road or Moor Lane to get a guaranteed drink!

BOF · 07/09/2013 17:49

I agree with you Hope- there's nothing sexier than a soft slow Scouse accent on a man of a certain age. But the kids all sound like Veloceraptors.

bottleofbeer · 07/09/2013 17:50

Hahaa The George? anybody over the age of 12 could get in there.

Except for me. I got told to bugger off.

ODearMe · 07/09/2013 17:51

YADBU, I'm in love with John Bishop! It's the teef that does it for me Grin

KoalaFace · 07/09/2013 17:51

The George! Fond memories! What was the bar across the road from The George called? It was small and looked more like a cafe.

BOF · 07/09/2013 17:52

The George, affectionately known as The Sandpit, as anyone of legal drinking age wouldn't be seen dead in it...

BOF · 07/09/2013 17:53

Harry's Bar, Koala.

bottleofbeer · 07/09/2013 17:53

Oh gawd, what kind of year are we talking about? it's all changed so much.

You've got Harry's Bar and Cad's, only it's not Cad's any more. Directly opposite is The Village and a Hawaiian themed late bar which does amazing shots that taste like melted lolly ices.

bottleofbeer · 07/09/2013 17:54

My mum and dad met in The George Grin

SirRaymondClench · 07/09/2013 17:55

Got to love the McGann brothers

KoalaFace · 07/09/2013 17:56

Harry's Bar Grin

I wonder if we're all of a similar age?

bottleofbeer · 07/09/2013 17:57

I'm 35, did you do sixth form at Sacred Heart? if so, I might well know you.

HappyHippyChick · 07/09/2013 18:02

Am not scouse and have nothing else to add except that I had to google Stephen graham Blush and have just seen he is reading the bedtime story on cbeebies tonight...

BOF · 07/09/2013 18:05

Ooh, good tip!

lovelychops · 07/09/2013 18:06

Bof, well done for mentioning Ian Hart. I love him!

Amy106 · 07/09/2013 18:14

Okay. I admit it. I like Paul McCartney's music.

cooeeyonlyme · 07/09/2013 18:19

Isn't Paul McCartney from Heswall?

KoalaFace · 07/09/2013 18:20

I'm 27 and went to Chesterfield Sixth Form. You'd probably just stopped drinking there when I started!

SubliminalMassaging · 07/09/2013 18:22

I remember seeing a documentary about single mums once and it was set in Liverpool. I honestly needed subtitles. It was like listening to a foreign language.

I like Les Dennis. Leave him alone. Grin Perhaps he's not a plastic Scouser but just a slightly posh Scouser. There must be some, after all. Wink

timidviper · 07/09/2013 18:29

Someone once referred to me as a posh scouser, to which a friend said "Ooh is there such a thing?" Grin

12345Floris · 07/09/2013 18:31

I love scousers and Liverpool city is an incredible place of culture and history. Perhaps it's the Irish blood in some of them but I find them friendly, daft and warm.
People watching sat outside a Liverpool coffee shop is a fascinating pastime.

I'd take a scouser over a miserable, up himself Manc any day.

I'd like to know why one of the main thoroughfares into the city still has dozens of 4 storey boarded up huge terrace houses though, in a city that has extreme homelessness problems.

Whilst on the subject of Liverpool... Crosby Beach! It has wind turbines, industrial plant, pylons and Anthony Gormley sculptures mixed in with the sea and sand.

I moved up north from my beloved Westcountry and only started to appreciate the place after visiting Liverpool and Yorkshire.

Lizzylou · 07/09/2013 18:42

12345, I was nodding with you until you dissed Mancunians!
I am from the Midlands (part Irish, brought up Catholic), I love living in the NW, worked in Manchester for years, I was gobsmacked first time I went to Liverpool. After growing up watching Bread and Gissa job, I think it is an absolute gem architecture wise. Mind you, I live in East Lancs and even the most deprived areas now have fabulous examples of just wonderful Victorian architecture.

I love the NW, I really do Blush

And now I will refill my wine glass. I am from a new town in the Midlands for explanation.

StanleyLambchop · 07/09/2013 18:48

Paul McGann lives in Bristol these days. I think they have claimed him as 'one of theirs'.

sashh · 07/09/2013 18:49

I've just realised that I don't dislike scouse accents. I always thought I did, but I'm agreeing about the list just on accent.

It's the fake scouse accents I can't stand.
