To detest most scouse celebrities

Afroturf · 07/09/2013 14:59

Cilla Black, Paul McCartney, Jimmy Tarbuck et al - celebrities who take every opportunity to remind us about their days in Scottie Road and all who, coincidentally, moved away from the city years ago.

What fake accents....I have never heard anyone else speak with Cilla Black's particular accent.

And now bloody Les Dennis has reared his head. God, how I've loathed him on Celebrity Masterchef - another one harking back about 'me Mam and Dad in Liverpool'. Fuck off. He was on radio 2 this morning with Rhod Gilbert and, my word, what a fucking name dropping twat. It was embarrassing.

I am not a fan.

Now I must mention that I'm from Liverpool, a city I love and live in today. I can't, however, abide these 'professional scousers' who go on and on about where they're from. Perhaps it's to try and fool us plebs that they are one of us. Again, do fuck off.

I don't want this thread to descend into an anti-Liverpool rant as my city is a very special place but wonder if anyone agrees with me. I think it's probably the fact that they come from the same place as me that I have a particular distain for them. I dare say that slebs from other parts of the UK annoy folk from their neck of the woods too.

I give you Glenda Jackson as an acceptable scouser but think she was born on the Wirral?

JustGiveMeFiveMinutes · 07/09/2013 16:46

David Morrisey has to go on the acceptable list. I would also ilcudd Lesley Sharp and Daniel Criag!

HopeClearwater · 07/09/2013 16:46

See, there are loads of acceptable scousers (I'm one of them).

But as someone upthread said, let's not forget the Mockneys.

Or the Professional Yorkshiremen. Alan Titchmarsh, I'm looking at you. Always going on about 'when I were a lad' blah blah blah. Where does he live? Deepest Hampshire near Jane Austen's pad. Oh and he's a sexist pig too.

CiderBomb · 07/09/2013 16:46

Jimmy Tarbuck has always struck me as being a complete twat.

frizzcat · 07/09/2013 16:47

BOF
Pete Postlethwaite is from Warrington

JustGiveMeFiveMinutes · 07/09/2013 16:47

X-post BOF

BOF · 07/09/2013 16:47

I was going to say Anne Robinson too, but she's not really acceptable, even if she doesn't trade on her accent.

frizzcat · 07/09/2013 16:48

Grr posted too sound does that make a scouse?

JoinYourPlayfellows · 07/09/2013 16:48

What about the guy from Half Man Half Biscuit? (hopeful)

TheWoollybacksWife · 07/09/2013 16:49

Sorry to burst bubbles but Kenny Everett was from Seaforth and Elvis Costello lived in Birkenhead. So the list of acceptable scousers is currently very short Sad - present company excepted obviously.

Erm Tom O'Connor anyone?

BOF · 07/09/2013 16:50

Seaforth is in Liverpool! L21.

BOF · 07/09/2013 16:50

All the Ls are, even if Formby is pushing it.

KatyaRachmanova · 07/09/2013 16:50

DH's family are from Liverpool and are all lovely. I love the city as well. The aforementioned Celebs are annoying though.

I'm from Devon. If anyone gets famous they tend to distance themselves from the accent. Grin

UserError · 07/09/2013 16:52

I'm with you on the list of unacceptable Scousers. Including Paul O'Grady - BUT when I showed some friends around Liverpool recently (Hi Jules!) the thing they were most impressed with was the portrait of Paul O'Grady made entirely out of jelly beans. It's in the window of one of the sweet shops on the Albert Dock.

lambanana · 07/09/2013 16:52

But isnt Lesley Sharp from Manchester?

mrsjay · 07/09/2013 16:53

but i luffs paul ogrady he does say he lives in kent though and did move away from scouseland Grin

what are your thoughts of tina malone she gets right on my wick

BOF · 07/09/2013 16:53

No, Formby.

And Tom O'Connor is NOT acceptable. Good Lord, woman!

TheWoollybacksWife · 07/09/2013 16:54

Oops! Sorry, south Liverpool girl here. My geography of anywhere in Liverpool north of the liver buildings is ropey. I confess I got it confused with Seacombe.

pokesandprodsforthelasttime · 07/09/2013 16:55

What about Craig Charles - acceptable or not?

RinkyDinkyDoo · 07/09/2013 16:55

You seem to have forgotten the man who told everyone that the "jerrrrrmans bombed our chippies" Stan Boardman.

KoalaFace · 07/09/2013 16:56

Isn't Daniel Craig from Chester? I hope I'm wrong, I'd like to claim James Bond as our own!

BOF · 07/09/2013 16:56

Not.

Next?

UserError · 07/09/2013 16:56

I am a north Liverpool girl. My knowledge of south extends to Smithdown Road and Sefton Park, so we'll even each other out.

mrsjay · 07/09/2013 16:57

"jerrrrrmans bombed our chippies" Stan Boardman.

think the least said about him the better his voice makes me curl up into a ball and he seems to have got stuck in 1975

RinkyDinkyDoo · 07/09/2013 16:57

Tom O'Connor lived in Southport years ago, I know, my Dad taught his son and sometimes did extra tuition at his house. He's a nice chap.
