I mean please, are they not punching above their intellectual weight? bourgeois construct my arse. It's like listening to something a bunch of A'level students wrote and I feel like snorting with mirth everytime it comes on the radio.

WheresMyCow · 06/09/2013 12:47

It is quite catchy though...

Snoopingforsoup · 06/09/2013 12:49

Ha ha. I really chuckled at this.

They've been this way for years.

Amazed it has radio play at all!

IslaValargeone · 06/09/2013 12:50

appletarts Are you me? It's shocking.
I think they are crap anyway, but they have excelled themselves with crap this time. I have shouted at the radio 'bourgeois construct my arse' when it has been played :o

SolomanDaisy · 06/09/2013 12:54

Umm, isn't it actually mocking pretentious students who say that sort of thing?

maudpringle · 06/09/2013 12:56

It's bloody awful.I just had to turn the radio off.

Souredstones · 06/09/2013 13:09

I burst out laughing when I heard it in the car. It was so wankishly shit it was brilliant. I did wonder if they did it to see what kind of shit will get played on the radio

CleverClod · 06/09/2013 13:11

Hate hate hate the 'PSB's', always have, always will. Horrible noise they make, it's not music it's abuse to the ears. Why can't they just sink without trace for eternity, like they had for years, instead of jumping on the revival bandwagon like so many other (has beens) have done.

YUK!

maras2 · 06/09/2013 14:20

The only thing that me and DH differ on musically is PSB.I really, really can not stand them and he loves them. We've been together 45 years and this is the one thing that we have to beg to differ on.He loved them so much that back in the day, he would intercept DD's Smash Hits mag if there was ay article in it about them. There usually was as they were shit in the field then.

cushtie335 · 06/09/2013 14:32

I'm inclined to think they wrote and recorded it as an elaborate joke to see how many radio stations and punters would fall for it.

MrsDavidBowie · 06/09/2013 14:33

It is shocking.
And I quite like the Pet Shop Boys .

appletarts · 06/09/2013 14:34

soloman is getting goady Grin on a completely benign thread on psb.

OP posts:
willyoulistentome · 06/09/2013 14:34

It's crap - much like all their other songs!

SolomanDaisy · 06/09/2013 15:15

Goady Grin? I was serious! It has the word university in it somewhere, I just assumed it was taking the piss out of students like Rik from the young ones. They're the only people who use the phrase bourgeois concept.

MisselthwaiteManor · 06/09/2013 15:18

All of their songs are absolute wank so it's not surprising this one is too

usuallyright · 06/09/2013 15:20

Yabvu
I love the pet shop boys, have seen them in concert twice.

getdownshep · 06/09/2013 17:21

Love psb, favourite song ever West End GirlsGrin

NoelHeadbands · 06/09/2013 17:22

I thought it was ironic as well

AKissIsNotAContract · 06/09/2013 17:25

I haven't heard it, can someone link it or tell me the title?

NoelHeadbands · 06/09/2013 17:36

"Love Is A Bourgeois Construct"

I've been taking my time for a long time
Putting my feet up a lot
Speaking English as a foreign language
any words that I haven't forgot
I've been thinking how I can't be bothered
to wash the dishes or remake the bed
What's the point when I could doss instead?

I've been hanging out with various riff-raff
somewhere on the Goldhawk Road
I don't think it's gonna be much longer
'til I'm mugging up on the penal code
Love is a bourgeois construct
so I've given up on the bourgeoisie
Like all their aspirations, it's a fantasy

When you walked out you did me a favour
you made me see reality
that love is a bourgeois construct
It's a blatant fallacy
You won't see me with a bunch of roses
promising fidelity
Love doesn't mean a thing to me

Talking tough and feeling bitter
but better now it's clear to me
that love is a bourgeois construct
so I've given up the bourgeoisie

While the bankers all get their bonuses
I'll just get along with what I've got
Watching the weeds in the garden
Putting my feet up a lot
I'll explore the outer limits of boredom
moaning periodically
Just a full-time, lonely layabout
that's me

When you walked out you did me a favour
It's absolutely clear to me
that love is a bourgeois construct
just like they said at university
I'll be taking my time for a long time
with all the schadenfreude it's cost
calculating what you've lost

Now I'm digging through my student paperbacks
Flicking through Karl Marx again
Searching for the soul of England
Drinking tea like Tony Benn
Love is just a bourgeois construct
so I'm giving up the bourgeoisie
until you come back to me

Talking tough and feeling bitter
but better now it's clear to me
that love is a bourgeois construct
so I've given up the bourgeoisie

usuallyright · 06/09/2013 17:40

pet shop boys are very witty and tongue in cheek.
These lyrics are somewhat better than blurred lines, wouldn't you say?

maras2 · 06/09/2013 18:03

Oh my Christ.Just told DH about this thread and he's shown me a video made by one of his ( oddball ) friends. All scenes set around our City centre early hours of the morning ( he's a postman ).Must be a bloke thing this love of PSB.

IslaValargeone · 06/09/2013 18:43

De Doo Doo Doo De Daa Daa Daa has better lyrics than blurred lines.
That's not much of an argument against the crapness that is PSB.

SolomanDaisy · 06/09/2013 18:55

A song with the lyrics 'drinking tea like Tony Benn' can only be taken seriously of course.
