I am so furious I can hardly speak Angry

My 9 month old table top dishwasher went wrong in mid July. As it was less than a year old it was still under warranty. So I contact Currys and an engineer is booked to attend on 15 July.

Engineer couldn't fix it so took it away. Almost 3 weeks later it comes back and it doesn't work. It actually had a new fault despite having been in the workshop for weeks. About a week later another engineer comes out. Still broken, can't be fixed and is condemned. He tells me Currys will arrange a replacement. 3 weeks later NO CONTACT. I email and try to phone but am on hold for ages. Finally get through on 30th August. Item out of stock and won't be in for weeks. I can have a refund of the cost but obviously I have paid for installation etc and I would need to pay again if I went elsewhere.

On Monday I get a call about my email complaint (about a 5 day response time so that's improving). Get more patronising bollocks off the woman on the phone about item out of stock nothing they can do even though it's been weeks and the service has been abysmal. While on the phone I can see my dishwasher for sale on website. She agrees to order it and I will get a call either that day or tomorrow. No call comes but an envelope of receipts arrives on Wednesday. Try to get through on phone but stuck on hold again.

So to today. A text arrives telling me my delivery is coming today. Eventually two guys arrive with enormous box. They take away old dishwasher then wave bye. The box is the width of the kitchen floor and I can't get to the only bathroom and loo (and the baby's just shat all over the high chair but that's not their fault). I ask them where they're going - no installation's been booked.

They take pity on me and unpack it and install it. Except it's not properly installed. It's lurching towards the sink, all the tubes are twisted, there's water everywhere and the electric cable is sitting in the water. They've not turned it on, which is just as well because I suspect there's rather a large risk of electrocution and/or flooding.

There's nothing Currys can do Hmm even though there is a hazard sitting in my kitchen. I am livid.

There have also been missed appointments, missed callbacks and each time I have had to wait in all day because they are whole day appointments. That's 4 days so far because they didn't tell me about the last delivery. Oh and I can't speak to a manager apparently.

Sorry it is epic but I have told you everything to avoid the dripfeed. I have remained calm and polite throughout until the last Kafkaesque phone call (another 20 minutes of my life gone) where they told me there was nothing that could be done today despite there being cables in water and I have two small children at home. I got a bit tearful then Blush

I am thoroughly fed up.

Currys are dreadful, will never shop with them again.

I've used empire direct/appliances online for purchases and they're good at sales.

Think you're near me. Coopers in sheen were good although it was a while ago that we bought stuff from them.

I'm not far from Sheen so I'll file that for later.

So far this weekend we've spent 4 hours washing up Hmm

I once had a vacuum cleaner that I bought from Currys, catch fire as I was using it, belching poisonous plastic smoke out of the back. It was a hairy few seconds till I was able to drag it outside - because it's plugged in, can't just chuck it out the door. Good job I'm on the ground floor and it was in a room near the exit.
So I took it back to Currys - was within guarantee, so no argument re refund. I said, arent you going to report it? I'm lucky my house didnt burn down, this has to be a design fault, they should be recalled.
You guessed it - nope. Just put into their rubbish pile.

I'd never buy from Currys due a crappy experience years ago and all the awful stories I've heard about them and lets face it they are always overpriced for the privilege of bad / rude customer service.

I concur with others Appliances Online are brilliant, not only are they very very competitively priced their customer service and delivery etc are second to none.

Advice for Currys CEO who hopefully is reading this thread - don't take our word for it, order something from your own company and also AO and see for yourself the difference and experience between the two companies.

Good luck OP it really shouldn't be this hard to get a working appliance that you have bought and paid your hard earned money for.

this was my saga with Currys last year:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/a1614763-To-think-that-Currys-PcWorld-is-shit
And I believe the only reason I got anywhere was by posting it here.
I do hope you get things resolved quickly.
You could try posting this thread to the CEO or even try using the email address on my thread for the knowhow team and flag it as problems posted on Mumset.
Best of luck

Apparently a new one is coming tomorrow. I haven't caught up on my messages because I was running out the door as a voicemail was being left but I have... a text from the terminally misnamed KnowHow team!

Between 9-12. No phone call yet from delivery team which is unusual but the poor man from Currys HO will probably call later to check it's all ok.

I've just spent an hour and a half washing and drying up so there's not a swathe of detritus around the dishwasher. My 4yo keeps trying to make an obstacle course of plastic crap for the delivery guys to negotiate and I keep tidying it away Hmm

I'm knackered!

Oh bum. I am an idiot. I've just spotted it's between 9-12.59. So 55 minutes of house arrest left.

I should bill them for my time.

Never had a good experience with Curry's myself - always avoid like the plague now. My experience of their customer services department was like being on Deal or no Deal! Apologies and then endless " would you accept this offer, - well what about this one then..." Any decent shop would ensure the customer was not out of pocket, not try to haggle when they are in the wrong.

I now boycott all Dixons Retail businesses.

My falling out happened when they, without telling me or anyone else, changed the terms of my PC support contract and in fact would not send out an engineer to fix it like the contract said. Apparently it was too difficult to write to customers to tell them this had happened and much better to keep taking their money on a false basis. I was told "sue us". Nice. Fortunately for them it's not like I have any choice where I spend my money tee hee.

Oh, and for some reason, they keep making losses?!?

Curry's are pushy twats! I bought a TV from there a few years back and they were pushing and pushing for us to take out their totally pointless shitty insurance.

Watchdog have already done a report about their terrible sales etiquette.

I hope it turns up in the next minute!

I bought a hoover from them years ago which lost its suction within a week so took it back expecting a replacement or refund. However, after asking me if I'd been doing "anything unusual" with it FFS "like hovering up builder's rubble" (I do NOT look like a builder!) they then said it'd have to be sent off for testing and nothing could be done until then which could be 2 weeks.

I'm afraid I then became extremely insistent in no uncertain terms - though I didn't swear - and threatened to take hoover outside their entrance and tell anyone coming in how crap they and their products were.

I got my refund and DD still remembers the occasion even though she was no more than 2 at the time!

I HATE them - who wants to buy anything or take advice from a greasy looking oik (which most of them seem to be) anyway ?

It is 5pm. No dishwasher and no callback yet.

I am opening a book on where I'll have a working dishwasher. I'll need the money for gin to recover.

200:1 by 5.30pm today
50:1 by 6pm
5:3 by Thursday lunch time
7:8 by a week Tuesday after I've bought one elsewhere and paid through the nose for this privilege

Another day in at home, another day without a dishwasher.

Except this was also my daughter's first day at nursery and only one of two days my eldest has with just me before he starts school next week. Dd spent most of it crying because she was hungry and tired because I didn't get to her early enough for her feed because I was waiting in for no-show, no call dishwasher delivery. Ds spent most of it being dragged all over town with "no time to play at the playground - we have to get back". Except we didn't. Because they never came :(

Currys are absolute shit. Will never ever shop with them again after their shitty attitude towards a faulty laptop, closely followed by an issue my dad had witha brand new, faulty washing machine. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Time for another email to Mr James in think K8.

Normally I'm against slating a company on line but given the number of times they've had to solve this problem, and to then fuck up today's delivery I'm adding Currys to my ShitList.

I have complained. I am really, really sick of complaining. I'm on hold right now being all polite and reasonable and not screaming.

I have two hungry, tired children because I can't feed them while the dishwasher turns up. I can't bath one because the bathroom's off the kitchen and I can't get to and supervise the other with a dishwasher being installed in the way. I can't give the baby a long breastfeed anf put her to bed.
