I am so furious I can hardly speak Angry

My 9 month old table top dishwasher went wrong in mid July. As it was less than a year old it was still under warranty. So I contact Currys and an engineer is booked to attend on 15 July.

Engineer couldn't fix it so took it away. Almost 3 weeks later it comes back and it doesn't work. It actually had a new fault despite having been in the workshop for weeks. About a week later another engineer comes out. Still broken, can't be fixed and is condemned. He tells me Currys will arrange a replacement. 3 weeks later NO CONTACT. I email and try to phone but am on hold for ages. Finally get through on 30th August. Item out of stock and won't be in for weeks. I can have a refund of the cost but obviously I have paid for installation etc and I would need to pay again if I went elsewhere.

On Monday I get a call about my email complaint (about a 5 day response time so that's improving). Get more patronising bollocks off the woman on the phone about item out of stock nothing they can do even though it's been weeks and the service has been abysmal. While on the phone I can see my dishwasher for sale on website. She agrees to order it and I will get a call either that day or tomorrow. No call comes but an envelope of receipts arrives on Wednesday. Try to get through on phone but stuck on hold again.

So to today. A text arrives telling me my delivery is coming today. Eventually two guys arrive with enormous box. They take away old dishwasher then wave bye. The box is the width of the kitchen floor and I can't get to the only bathroom and loo (and the baby's just shat all over the high chair but that's not their fault). I ask them where they're going - no installation's been booked.

They take pity on me and unpack it and install it. Except it's not properly installed. It's lurching towards the sink, all the tubes are twisted, there's water everywhere and the electric cable is sitting in the water. They've not turned it on, which is just as well because I suspect there's rather a large risk of electrocution and/or flooding.

There's nothing Currys can do Hmm even though there is a hazard sitting in my kitchen. I am livid.

There have also been missed appointments, missed callbacks and each time I have had to wait in all day because they are whole day appointments. That's 4 days so far because they didn't tell me about the last delivery. Oh and I can't speak to a manager apparently.

Sorry it is epic but I have told you everything to avoid the dripfeed. I have remained calm and polite throughout until the last Kafkaesque phone call (another 20 minutes of my life gone) where they told me there was nothing that could be done today despite there being cables in water and I have two small children at home. I got a bit tearful then Blush

I am thoroughly fed up.

It's almost impossible to know where to shop now
I would still champion John Lewis, or a recommended local business. Currys are twats, as are Comet. My aged parents went to buy a not inexpensive new TV from Currys recently. Bearing in mind they are late 70s/early 80s in age the dipstick serving them just bamboozled them with techy speak. My mum did the whole, "Look, we want to give you our money but you need to speak to me in a way I can understand, cos I don't know what you're talking about" and the guy just looked at her like she was a complete fool. They took their custom elsewhere. Only think Currys is good for is the iPads on display that the DC can have a quick go of Temple Run on!

Some years back, I ordered a gas hob unit from a VERY famous store in Oxford St., including its fitting to replace old unit. It arrived, was fitted ... I used it for a few days but then noticed my cat kept coughing. Took her to vet, vet couldn't find out anything. She kept doing it and then, day or so later, when I picked something up off kitchen floor, I smelled GAS! Called out North Thames Gas, who arrived, went pale with horror, shut off my entire gas supply, heating and all and slapped huge DO NOT USE notices on everything. Turned out the fitters sent, and paid for by me, by the very famous store, had not tightened up any of the connections and gas was leaking all over the place. Told I was very VERY lucky there hadn't been an explosion.

I went back to store and had a big moan, met with shrugged shoulders and a dismissive sort of apology. Wish I'd taken it further, but I didn't, and in future, bought all appliances from John Lewis in future. I believe at present when you buy a gas appliance, they won't fit it as as well (at least, JL won't) but it's up to the purchaser to arrange fitting with a properly registered and qualified gas person.

Currys sound ghastly.

My washing machine broke on Wednesday. Went into currys yesterday morning. Engineer out this morning.

I always find face-to-face preferably with at least 1 chokd in toe is best to get things done quickly.

I had the most awful service with indesit.
Emailed the CEO on Friday and had a new washing machine by Tuesday.

Email, tweet at FB as much and as many people as you can!

I had terrible problems with a Kenwood dishwasher from Currys, it broke down within the guarantee period and we were them treated to.a farcical series of visits from engineers who kept arriving with one part but not the crucial fixing widget or matching part. On one occasion I waited in for a cheery bloke who arrived with no relevant parts at all . When I asked why he had botherd coming he quoted some policy about not canceling visits .

It transpired that for this particular dishwasher Kenwood kept the repair contract, not Currys. A final farcical call with Kenwood revealed that it would take yet more weeks for the part to arrive in their warehouse, that once it arrived it would then take a week to book a repair visit.,... As we were now within 1 day of the Currys pledge to provide a refund if a repair had not been undertaken within 6 weeks (or whatever) I told the Kenwood woman I would be taking this option.

'Ok' she intoned , 'bye then'
I said that by this point I had been without a dishwasher for 6 weeks, and would any apology be mentioned?
'Not from me, I only started working here this week, so it isn't my fault ' !!!'

I charged straight down to Curry's in Brixton and spoke to a very efficient manager who had a new (Bosch) installed within 24 hours,

IIRC the bad experiences with John Lewis are generally from ordering online (which is a separate bit of the business) -- generally if you order in store they are good. They will also deliver to the part of the house where you actually need the appliance rather than to your front door/the front door of the block where you live, which most other companies won't.

But yes, a good local independent is even better.

I have never, ever heard a good word about Curries on MN.
I had a an incident with their customer services about a new laptop and never used them again.
It is also connected to PC World as far as I know, who are just as bad.
Avoid like the plague.

I've bought all of my recent white goods from //www.appliancesonline.co.uk
I go in Currys to see what I want and measure it up etc then come home and order it.
They also do free delivery whereas Currys wanted £40.

Grrr Currys...

DH bought a tumble dryer from them but some numpty working there had swapped the labels in the warehouse over so he ended up bringing a vented one home when he'd bought a condenser one. He took it back and swapped for the right one, but the measurements on the label were ales wrong so it didn't fit in the space we were going to put it. So he took that one back too. The third one was fine.

When I rang Currys and complained they didn't say sorry, and sounded incredulous that I had asked for a discount for the time/petrol/injury caused by single-handedly lifting 3 tumble dryers in and out of our car. Ridiculous.

I'm happy to recommend this company ao.com/

I bought a fridge/freezer from them earlier this year; it was the cheapest price that I found anywhere, they kept in touch via email and text, delivered and installed exactly when they said they would, removed my old fridge/freezer - and sent me £60 of Ocado vouchers and a personal letter from the Managing Director thanking me for my custom..!!! Smile

I had found them on the Net quite by chance, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Thank you for all the recommendations. I'm not far from Hampton so that might be a good option. I do like online shopping but don't like poor after sales service.

Funnily enough I will not be buying the extended warranty.

Oh, and no phone call or reply to my email. Quelle surprise.

OP if you can bear to drag yourself over to W10, I have always found Buyers and Sellers on Ladbroke Grove to be pretty good (esp Zippi - v efficient).

You'd think that with the combination of the recession/increased competition because people can so easily shop around by researching online/instant ability to slag them off online for all and sundry to see, these companies would get their acts together and go all out to offer fantastic service.

I once staged a sit-in protest in Currys. Ordered a new washing machine just before Christmas. Of course it was not delivered when supposed to be.

Endless trips to the launderette over Xmas and new year.

Delivered in early Jan. machine dented and when they installed it it flooded the kitchen.

Had had enough and now wet towels everywhere with snow outside.

Went to Currys and sat there until they agreed to deliver a washing machine within the next hour.

I got it eventually but I will never shop there ever ever ever again.

I've had a look but table top/compact dishwashers are hard to find. I live in a teeny house so a normal one wouldn't fit. It also means the useless one is taking up the space where the draining board would be so washing up is pretty much impossible unless you dry each item as you go.

Arrrrrrrrrgah!

Update: no callback yet but dirty water has just started running out from the cupboard under the sink because the u-bend has been moved by the installation guys and wasn't properly attached any more.

So the waste pipe for the sink is dripping into the cupboard and onto the floor. Lovely Hmm

I feel strangely calm. Dh has been despatched to buy rubber gloves and my to-do list has been shelved.
