Aibu to expect Cunting Currys not to be a complete shower of bastards?

I am so furious I can hardly speak Angry

My 9 month old table top dishwasher went wrong in mid July. As it was less than a year old it was still under warranty. So I contact Currys and an engineer is booked to attend on 15 July.

Engineer couldn't fix it so took it away. Almost 3 weeks later it comes back and it doesn't work. It actually had a new fault despite having been in the workshop for weeks. About a week later another engineer comes out. Still broken, can't be fixed and is condemned. He tells me Currys will arrange a replacement. 3 weeks later NO CONTACT. I email and try to phone but am on hold for ages. Finally get through on 30th August. Item out of stock and won't be in for weeks. I can have a refund of the cost but obviously I have paid for installation etc and I would need to pay again if I went elsewhere.

On Monday I get a call about my email complaint (about a 5 day response time so that's improving). Get more patronising bollocks off the woman on the phone about item out of stock nothing they can do even though it's been weeks and the service has been abysmal. While on the phone I can see my dishwasher for sale on website. She agrees to order it and I will get a call either that day or tomorrow. No call comes but an envelope of receipts arrives on Wednesday. Try to get through on phone but stuck on hold again.

So to today. A text arrives telling me my delivery is coming today. Eventually two guys arrive with enormous box. They take away old dishwasher then wave bye. The box is the width of the kitchen floor and I can't get to the only bathroom and loo (and the baby's just shat all over the high chair but that's not their fault). I ask them where they're going - no installation's been booked.

They take pity on me and unpack it and install it. Except it's not properly installed. It's lurching towards the sink, all the tubes are twisted, there's water everywhere and the electric cable is sitting in the water. They've not turned it on, which is just as well because I suspect there's rather a large risk of electrocution and/or flooding.

There's nothing Currys can do Hmm even though there is a hazard sitting in my kitchen. I am livid.

There have also been missed appointments, missed callbacks and each time I have had to wait in all day because they are whole day appointments. That's 4 days so far because they didn't tell me about the last delivery. Oh and I can't speak to a manager apparently.

Sorry it is epic but I have told you everything to avoid the dripfeed. I have remained calm and polite throughout until the last Kafkaesque phone call (another 20 minutes of my life gone) where they told me there was nothing that could be done today despite there being cables in water and I have two small children at home. I got a bit tearful then Blush

I am thoroughly fed up.

Well after the flood and the debacle with the hoses I want it installed properly, mainly to ensure there hasn't been too much damage done everywhere else and if there is I can evidence the bastards are liable. My fridge is plugged in underneath the dishwasher, near the plumbing, and my sink has the plug for the oven under it so it could be a bit dodgy.

I had to pay almost as much to get the dishwasher installed as it cost to buy but yes, ordinarily it shouldn't be a massive thing to get a new one fitted and installed. However there have been that many bits of pipe moved about over the last few weeks I'm not hugely confident the original, plumber installed, bits are still there and ok.

I don't want a refund because it won't pay the cost of a new dishwasher. Prices have gone up since we bought last year. But also, I think that's exactly what Currys would like. Give me my money back and hope I'll go away. Never mind the wasted hours, the breached warranty contract and associated costs of the potential damage.

That Indesit one would fit my maximum of Width in 55cm, Depth in 50cm requirements but I'm going to be out of pocket and I don't see why I should be out of pocket even more than I already am.

I wonder if they are going bust and can't offer a decent level of service because they've got no money?

Ah good old Curry's! I almost miss chatting to the manager of my local store....

Had an epic falling out over a laptop delivered to them for repair...Which they lost! After an almighty hooha lasting several weeks, DH refused to leave the store unless they gave us a new laptop, which they did. DH got a bit demonic at one point - mainly through lack of any reaction from the staff, no apologies etc....

They found our original laptop six months later and then phoned us to inform us our laptop was broken and would we like them to fix it. WTF??!!

We can laugh about it now, nearly. We will never darken their door again though - shocking, just shocking.

What crap service OP. I have never bought from Curry's after they did the hard sell on a crap extended warranty. They told me that within 10 months the motor in the Panasonic microwave would blow up! Really I said, does Panasonic know about these claims you are making. Panasonic were most unimpressed when I e-mailed their CEO. Rely can't understand how service can be so crap!

This is un-fucking-believable, even by Curry's usual crap standards K8.

It isn't just about getting your dishwasher fitted correctly (god knows when) any more. Even if they fixed it this afternoon for you that doesn't negate all that's gone on.

I'm not usually one to see a compensation claim in every one of life's mishaps but this is definitely one occasion when you are, without question, owed decent compensation in recognition of the appalling service, the rudeness, the lies, the potential danger because of their dreadful "workmanship" which is shocking and the significant waste of your time. I know you joked about invoicing them earlier but you so should - regardless of your work situation these people don't know if you've had to take time off, whether you're self employed and have turned down work or whatever. It's disgusting that they can be so cavalier and still no apology from anyone who matters.

As for the service being explained away by them going bust (maybe) they've always been pretty awful so I don't necessarily think it's that.

I mean, is this going to go on forever like some sort of Groundhog Day ?? .....

Would recommend using a local independent - mine was recommended to me and used to be part of 'Euronics' - but not anymore and don't know why...(they have their own website now -maybe the reason) - not particularly cheap but did reasonable deal/price match for me...and I know if I have a problem I can just walk in there without having to deal with a massive customer service dept etc..
For people complaining about being quizzed about appliance use etc when returning goods - there are a lot of people who take the mickey...and really don't see any harm in that ...
Eg I had a new printer (from Comet) - a few weeks later I had a DIY mishap - had water running down the wall, printer got a little wet - did my best to dry it out but when I first turned it on it wouldn't work - asked on an internet site for instructions on how to take it apart etc to try to fix/check dry inside and several posters told me to just take it back under the guarantee, not say anything and get a new one...ShockShock- no-one said that isn't honest, attitude was very much these big companies factor in these kinds of losses etc....
(actually left it a bit longer and it did work - just mustn't have been dry enough)

Another envelope and another receipt. No phone call.

I am having quite a nice day (considering I didn't get to bed until 3am catching up on stuff I would have been doing if I hadn't been dealing with Currys) and it seems a shame to spoil it by ringing them.

I am going to give Citizens Advice consumer service a call now while the DCs play nicely. Although I'd rather watch them doing that tbh.

Spoke to consumer helpline who told me all the things I already know regarding refund/replacement. We also discussed consequential losses so I'm going to ask for a refund and compensation for the plumbing work, damage to the cupboard, telephone calls and my time.

Depending how that goes I will then send a recorded delivery letter, copying in Hemel Hempstead Trading Standards and detailing my losses.

If that doesn't get it sorted I will then lodge a claim with my county court via the small claims process.

Sorry I've not had the time or energy to spare on Currys for a bit so I've been ignoring everything for a couple of days.

Any way, to update: I asked for a refund and compensation including for the cost of the plumbing, phone calls and time. They arranged for collection of the latest duff dishwasher to come today. The guy came on time (good) but didn't know what the job was (bad) and unfortunately he has taken away ALL the dishwasher plumbing (ie the appliance and hose, plus all the hosing, valves etc my plumber installed). So I cannot get a new one fitted because there is nothing to fit it to. We also, possibly have another leak and I've just mopped water off the electrics. I was out when the guy came and dh is astonished that all the plumbing has gone.

So the latest is I have no dishwasher... and no plumbing. I am going to take an hour to collect my thoughts before deciding what to do. I can't quite face going back in the kitchen again to inspect under the sink.

Oh no K8
I read your thread back when you first posted and when I noticed it was back at the top of the board I was hoping you had updated with some positive news.

Sounds like a complete and utter disaster from start to finish.

Hope you get things sorted swiftly - actually that's probably a really stupid thing to say given 'service' level to date Sad
