I make the same mistake every month, start hating my body and feeling fat and disgusting......then all of a sudden back to normal!

What can I do to stop this apparent weight gain before and during my period?

Cut down on salt, keep drinking plenty of water though.

SybilRamkin · 04/09/2013 07:58

Nothing! It's totally normal, most women look bloated before their period. It also affects your mood so you feel worse about the apparent 'weight gain'. Try keeping track of your period so you know when to expect the yucky feelings so you can knock them on the head as soon as they start.

I take Waterfall capsules.. They're great but it is better ton flush out with plenty of water

Haha this is me! I'm really disgustingly obese at the moment. I'm training for a half marathon and looking in the mirror last night have decided ill be the only morbidly obese runner there. Wobble wobble wobble as I run. I even thought about pulling out! No clothes look good. I was also the fattest parent at the kids swimming yesterday and the spottiest.

However I know that in a weeks time it'll be ok again because I'll be normal again.

Sometimes being a woman is a pain in the fucking arse.

MalcolmTuckersMistress · 04/09/2013 08:13

I actually can put on over 1/2 a stone overnight too! I don't weigh myself any more because its too depressing.

TroublesomeEx · 04/09/2013 09:33

I crave carbs in the week before my period. I could live on crisp sandwiches, bread and butter, and chips! It's all I want to eat and I want to eat it constantly Sad

I try not to but I don't ever 'learn' either!

Souredstones · 04/09/2013 09:35

I retain over half a stone in water retention each month. I keep meaning to take water tablets but keep forgetting.

HairyGrotter · 04/09/2013 10:22

Urgh, this is me too! I never get spots unless it's on the dreaded run up to period time! I get a cluster of them on my chin, my skin goes blotchy, I swell, and I hate the very sight of me (I do usually but especially when due on). I weighted myself (stupidly) the other day on my first day of my period and just sobbed. Will try again in another week Wink

Hate it!!! Also, my moods are getting worse the older I get!! Poor DP, thankfully he doesn't notice the difference, weirdo!

HairyGrotter · 04/09/2013 10:26

Weighted? Fuck off autocorrect, you twit!

*weighed

largelandmass · 04/09/2013 10:26

My period is due in a week or so, I feel like I've put on about two stone, have inhaled two galaxys and a pasty since arriving at work and could quite happily instigate a brawl.

I totally hate being female at times like this.

Binkyridesagain · 04/09/2013 10:27

I've had a carb craving since the weekend, I couldn't work out why, then the answer arrived last night, usually I get a warning, 3 days of cramps or 2 days of migraine, not this time, this time it crept up out of nowhere only 2 weeks after it went away.

I hate it, i want it to go away NOW!

Latara · 04/09/2013 10:33

I usually get really depressed before and during my period, I mean sometimes i'm suicidal which is awful because I don't feel that bad normally (I take ADs and antipsychotics). I just hope I don't do anything stupid because I don't feel like myself then IYSWIM.
My Psychiatrist suggested going on the pill but I don't want to because i'm overweight and it can cause thrombosis in overweight women.

Does anyone else get really tired before their period? I have no energy then.

I think spots and bloating and food cravings are normal unfortunately.

I find that I always forget my symptoms are due to my period and feel very relieved when it starts and I think oh yes, that's all it was.

The pre-menstrual symptoms are definitely unpleasant but I would rather have them and still be fertile than be in a friend's position of going through the menopause at just 37..

IcedCoffeeQueen · 04/09/2013 10:33

I feel your pain im sooo bloated, which makes me think im fat, which makes me want to eat even though I know its just bloat and drinking all the water in the world doesn't help me!

MalcolmTuckersMistress · 04/09/2013 11:14

You can really understand why periods used to be called "The Curse".

HeadfirstForHalos · 04/09/2013 12:41

I put loads on every month, it was 10lbs this time! 10 bloody pounds! Even though I know it's not actual weight gain I still panic every month.

Mind you, it feels great when it drops off again Grin

I'd still prefer not to put it on in the first place though Hmm
