To ask, just this once, for my period to start before I go on holiday?

I'm sick of this perimenopause malarkey. I'm already three weeks late. I don't want to be caught off guard on the plane, in the pool, on the beach, in some young mans arms. Just this bloody once!

On advice of mumsnet, I went to docs and got a prescription of norethisterone - no period on holiday - amazing. would that be an option for you op? You have to take it about three days before due - so that might be complicated...

Periods wait for holidays. Fact. I'm off on holiday on Saturday and it's bound to come then. Grr.

Lighthousekeeping · 03/09/2013 15:09

God periods and 90 degrees sunshine do not mix. And loos that you can't flush paper down .

The patron saints of menstruation are St Maurice and St Winifred. Try a supplication to them?

Bigpants1 · 03/09/2013 16:52

If Norethisterone isn't an option for you cos of irregular periods, you can get medication that you take as soon as you start bleeding, & it stops the flow within approx 3 days, & makes it less heavy also. I have used this, but not for a while, so can't remember it's name. Perhaps someone medical will come along & can tell you.

YANBU and I feel your pain. Three ruddy holidays in a row!!

My holiday tops are rather tight. So bloody annoying.

I HATE periods with a passion!.

I had the medication which delays your period when we went on a fantastic holiday. It made me feel hideous - insomnia worse than normal, grumpy, bloated etc. I actually felt better once my period had started. Can you get some tranexamic acid. They have it at Gatwick Boots in the south terminal, before the check in I think (none at north terminal).

That will reduce the bleeding substantially.

Beastofburden · 04/09/2013 07:58

You can get tran acid other the counter now, brand name femstrual, but you do have to qualify and have regular perio etc, and it doesn't sound as if the OP has those. The pharmacist can help but it is an [embarrassed] convo to be having at the airport pharmacy, I'd pop down the road at home personally....
