To not want my 6 year old dd read Cathy Cassidy?

My mum says I'm being 'controlling' by not giving in to 6 year old dds demands to read her big sisters Cathy Cassidy books. She said it won't do her any harm.

They're teen lit, right? So not suitable for a 6 year old? Isn't that good parenting to monitor what your child reads/watches?

However dd is now reading said book with my permission although I'm not comfortable with it.

My DD2 is 10 and she started reading them just before turning 10. I would not have been happy with her reading them any younger (and vetted one for her before letting her have it).

Oddly enough reading them was all her idea - her older sister was into Rick Riordan, LOTR and Gerald Durrell at the time.

It passes - DD2 still reads teen chick lit but is now also reading Gerald Durrell and more interesting stuff.
