To think the school uniform shop should fit girls with the appropriate length skirt

I went into the official sole supplier shop on dds induction day and as the school is quite a distance from home I went in without dd taking her measurements and the skirt from her junior school for comparison (a 24 waist 20 length)

They sold me a 28 waist 20 length skirt. When she tried it on at home it sat right on the knee which is a little shorter than I would normally buy as we usually allow for growth but it is acceptable. The waist was too big & we have had to gather the adjustable waistband a lot but its OK

Last week dh had to go into the city where the shop is doge took her in to get another skirt. They fitted her properly (when I went in they told me off for not taking her to be fitted) & sold her a 24 waist 18 length.

It's around two inches above the knee!! It fits her at the waist but only just, no room for growth. I'm sure this length

Admittedly the uniform list (unusually) doesn't mention skirt length but surely this is too short & at £23 I want it to last.

AIBU to take both skirts back & ask for a 26waist 22 length?

Yes, I'd only pay for what I was entirely happy with.

WowOoo · 02/09/2013 18:02

I mean YaNbu.

Did your DH not think to say "I would rather get one with more growing room?"

Sounds like the sold one which fits now. Take them back by all means but I don't think you can be angry with the shop.

He's a man!!!!

It's not just there is no growing room it's two inches too short & only just fits her waist.

He said he trusted the shop to know what they were doing.

Yanbu. Could you get a longer length and get the waist tightened by a local seamstress?

Sirzy · 02/09/2013 18:04

Too short by your standards though. Some people like it that length skirt length is very much down to individual choice.

I'm just annoyed that she starts school on Thursfay & I've hot to spend my day off on Wednesday travelling 45 mins to the shop.

They have elasticised pull in waists so the bigger one will be fine.

Each waist size comes in a Variety of different lengths

Does the skirt have the schools logo on? Could you get one from another shop cheaper later on in the year if she grows out of it? I'm assuming this wrong skirt is non returnable?

MissOtisRegretsMadam · 02/09/2013 18:17

Sorry cross posted I now see you are returning it. That's a very expensive skirt she is wearing. I'd try get one from a cheaper shop.

MissOtisRegretsMadam · 02/09/2013 18:18

Ha just re read the op....
Blush sorry I'm not with it at all.

Picturesinthefirelight · 02/09/2013 18:22

It is a specific style skirt you can't get from anywhere else made by a company called John Hall school wear
