To want my full six weeks?

I've only had 5 weeks and 3 days off instead of 6 weeks and really notice the difference.

Anyone else in the South West, my niece broke up the same day but is going back a full week later :-(

LuvMyBoyz · 31/08/2013 22:46

Half term is 8 weeks away. Not a few weeks away.

Yep. I'm a teacher and am miffed about the missing 2 days too. Plus, I have done 5 days of work this holiday, some in school and some at home, and as I only work 2 days a week that's 50% of my holiday gone. Grrrrr!

onedev · 31/08/2013 22:46

Agreed - far too short this year. 6 weeks isn't long enough in the first instance, never mind them making it shorter (& I'm not a teacher, just want my DC to enjoy their holidays for a while longer!).

Blueandwhitelover · 31/08/2013 22:47

I just realised that it will be an eight week half term. I will now have to have wine tomorrow night.

LuvMyBoyz · 31/08/2013 22:52

Ah well. I'll just look forward to the pep talk on Monday and seeing all the children again on Tuesday...schools are naff places without the children. Thanks for considering my question. Xx

to answer/preempt any teacher maligners...if you're feeling snippy, jealous or any sort of academic misanthropy - why not retrain as a teacher and have the 6 weeks yourself. Simples.

KatyPutTheCuttleOn · 31/08/2013 22:57

Only 6 weeks after Xmas until half term though, and then 4 weeks after Easter before half term :) It's not 6 weeks next year either :(

AnneEyhtMeyer · 31/08/2013 23:00

I hope you don't teach English, Spongingbobsunderpants.

MaureenMLove · 31/08/2013 23:02

Makes you wonder why the first term is 8 week doesn't it? Surely it would make more sense to have a full 6 weeks and maybe even 6 weeks 2 days and make the first term 6 weeks and 3 days! Win win imho.

(Although, actually I feel like this holiday has gone on and on and on and I'm looking forward to getting some routine back in my life!!)

Alisvolatpropiis · 31/08/2013 23:03

Ah I see OP. I know what you mean, if three days were knocked off my annual leave I don't doubt I would feel it.

You do a difficult job, though many like to say otherwise, without the additional pointless "training days" that invariably end up being a total waste of time.

Spongingbobsunderpants · 31/08/2013 23:05

Was Anne, but I got sacked. Grin

I don't think we often do get 6 weeks though, I did this year and it was the first time I think, wasn't it 6 weeks pre-INSET?

Spongingbobsunderpants · 31/08/2013 23:11

Don't worry Anne, I like making up words on my birthday (after all, communication is 9/10ths the battle, ain't it?) after a few glasses of Prosecco. I'm not addling the brains of our British children. I went to Oxford btw. ;)

I am so with you on this! I am very tempted to phone the head on Monday and just let him know I won't be in until Wednesday...very tempting! Grin

Wonderstuff · 31/08/2013 23:16

The 5 days INSET was taken out of annual leave years ago, we rarely get 6 weeks, normally 5 and a half.

Wonderstuff · 31/08/2013 23:19

Just looked Hampshire been 5 weeks 4 days for last 4 years. Think my school did a twilight inset to make it up to 6 weeks this year.

Turniptwirl · 31/08/2013 23:20

TheYoniWayIsUp · 31/08/2013 23:22

I feel your pain OP. Gutted.

Bugger off, teacher haters, do it yourself if it's so bloody cushty!

NuggetofPurestGreen · 31/08/2013 23:25

Move to Ireland OP, schools are off for 3 months here Grin

NuggetofPurestGreen · 31/08/2013 23:28

Exactly Yoni - I'm not a teacher but really annoys me when people go on about their holidays - you should have been a teacher if you wanted those holidays!

AnneEyhtMeyer · 31/08/2013 23:50

No one is jealous of anybody being a teacher. It is just funny when teachers complain about their holidays. It is like Imelda Marcos saying she has no shoes.
