DD1 starts next week and I have no clue as to what it's like as I was brought up in another country with a different system.

So, what's life going to be like for her in the next 2 years?

It depends entirely on which sixth form she goes to.

Is it one that is part of the school, or is it separate? If it's separate, there tends to be a lot more independence wrt working outside of college hours and on free periods.

She will have to be very organised and motivated - it is not like school where the teacher will nag her to do work; if she doesn't work, she doesn't get the grades, it's as simple as that!

She will meet some fantastic new people, and have an absolute blast of a time. She might hate the first few weeks as it is a really different setting from school, but soon she'll get used to the independence and the style of teaching, and I'm sure she'll enjoy it. :)

As a parent, you will now have to deal with exam stress in January and the summer, so enjoy... :o

My DD1 went into a 6th form from a different educational system. She had a ball. She made loads of friends easily but she had to work very hard on the course work. This set her up well for uni. Your DD will hopefully thrive in this new challenge.
