To ask if the copper coil is any good? (Nexplanon was a bastard to me)!

Sooo
After major mood swings/rage issues/low mood one had nexplanon out...

Was considering Mirena in a couple months, after reading the other thread I've changed my mind.

So that leaves copper coil or mini pill as options for me. Thoughts?
(Breast feeding so can't take pill, too light for depo injection- bone density issues, condoms ok short term)

thanks to copper coil I have DS4. I say try the mirena.

I got pregnant and miscarried with copper coil, I gave it a miss after that. Have mirena now, and no hassles (much more even tempered and no periods).

I dont repsond well to progesterone by itself so mini pill, implant and minera where all a bit of a night mare tbh. I had copper coil pre children and it was great, made my periods heavier and bit more crampy but that was it. Getting new one fitted in couple of months but been told more risky as my womb is still soft from bf

I've had a copper coil for 3 years. No pregnancies (phew!), light periods (slightly longer than pre-children) and normal sex drive. I'd recommend it.

I have a copper coil (after a horrific two year ordeal with Mirena), and I love it. My periods are a bit heavier than without, but nothing else that bothers me.

I was on the mini pill 7 years ago for about a year and it was hell! Had awful anxiety and depression (the anxiety I still occasionally have flare ups of now). Had the copper coil for about 5 years as was no way I was having hormonal contraceptive again. It did give me very heavy periods which were painful but I always suffered with heavy periods before anyway so not too much worse. I've since had it removed and am pregnant but would probably use it again (and would definitely choose it over the pill)

It's a brilliant contraceptive - I was in pain and bleeding for a year almost continually, sex life virtually non existent, so didn't get pregnant..... I'd give it a miss if you have other options. If you do go for it, and have problems from day one, don't be fobbed by doctors who tell you it will settle down in time.

viking I am not the only person I know to whom this happened. Surely some bad doctoring/inserting and we were just unfortunate I understand failure is about 1% (though adore DS4 now)

I have the copper coil and love it. I feel 'normal' again after using hormonal contraception for years.

Reading with interest as my coil was fitted today, after DC2. Not that painful and no issues so far. But DS is 10 weeks old so things could still be quite loose, lol. Can't have anything hormonal owing to migraines and truly crazy mood swings with Cerazette. Fingers crossed it suits me as I really don't want any more DC. GP said to give it 6 months before being too down on it, but I'm feeling positive. Otherwise DH has to step up haha! Got to be worth a go, it's at least reversible immediately where the hormonal methods aren't?

I had nearly a decade of chronic lower back pain due to the copper coil. I had my first one removed to have ds2, then had another one inserted when he was three months old.

I didn't realise what was causing the pain until I had it removed a few years ago and it suddenly got better. I wish I'd known. 10 years of bloody pain (bad at times) because of a sodding contraceptive

I have posted on other thread too.

I had Mirena for 4 years before DS - I loved it.
I found my contraceptive soulmate after a bloody long and painful journey. I didn't want it, I wanted copper but GP wouldn't give it to me (conspiracy) I was worried about the hormones because I had been on the implant, gained 4 stone and become a gibbering, depressed, psychotic mess.

The mirena for me didn't cause any of the same side effects.
It was bloody excruciating though but I hadn't had any babies so might be better (I'm hoping!) post birth.

So can't comment on copper but can say that it's different strokes for different folks and I know lots of people who like the Mirena!
