If it is for publicity it works though. I have never heard her sing before tonight, so I went to youtube and checked out some video's of her.
Not for us I'm afraid. We have fussy ears. Smile
But I thought her cropped hair looked good on her.

I just had to verify my age on YouTube (43) so i could watch Miley's performance and Taylor Swift's reaction (especially to the bending over in front of Robin Thicke bit.

I don't remember being that shocked by Madonna during her Erotica era.
Miley's singing was dreadful and the tongue just looked offensive.

Yes Robin Thicke, Pharrel etc are sleazy old men. But I do think RT can sing and I liked Blurred Lines; it was catchy and after something like 6 albums, people have finally heard of RT.

The only person who seems to have survived the whole sexualisation thing intact is madonna, but she does have the hide of a rhino and is very strict with her own kids hypocrite

I think the thing about madonna was that it was just her, she shocked, she caused outraged, she had videos banned in some countries, she was and is hugely successful. She was unique and you could if you wanted avoid her. This is now mainstream, they are all at it and women appear to have to behave like this in order to be successful. :(

I feel sorry for her, how mortifying. The performance was so unprofessional and badly done. She's trying very hard to distance herself from her child star past, it's understandable that she want's to create her own identity and rid the false persona given to her by a management team, the problem is she doesn't know who she is and seems to be mimicking what she thinks will make her popular, edgy, cool... coming across as desperate, needy, fake and unstable.

She's incredibly popular. Did anyone see the British suoerfan on tv who had covered his body with tattoos of her?

She's just making a fortune out of the porn image (I suspect thats what the sticking out the tongue is all about) and the idea of a young Disney princess gone bad. Her career would be over by now otherwise. But it obviously sells, and she's just slightly more blatant than some.

I really do find Beyonce's dancing more offensive, worse still as she is portrayed as quite prim and IMHO normalises it more. I dont especially get the impression Miley Cyrus is that vulnerable - I might be wrong but i doubt she's another Lindsay Lohan.

I think really she just represents the way societies attitudes are going ie her management have tapped into that. Outside the videos and performances, her behaviour isn't as bad as Taylor Swift who is with a different famous man every week, but presented diferently.

God, how tiresome. Does anyone else just want to tell her to just close her bloody legs and put her tongue back in her stupid mouth? The Least Sexy Thing Ever, Official.

Fuck, that was DREADFUL.
What NewGirl said. Absolutely.

Robin Thicke is a dick. Sorry I just had to get that out my systems!

My suspicion is that if it had been some "nameless" model it would have been deemed "acceptable". Like the hundreds of other superfit, semi-naked dancers that gyrate round most acts these days. I seem to remember Justin Timberlake simulating anally penetrating a bent-over female dancer on a similar stage a few years back.

All this horror just because it's Miley makes me feel uncomfortable. Yes, it doesn't seem the wisest thing to do but the witch hunt feels horrible. I'm feeling quite conflicted about it.

Do feel enormous sympathy for her having her young life played out in front of the camera. It's like all the rubber-necking at the mental disintegration of Amanda Byres.

I don't get the outrage.

I mean, it is nothing new and Ive seen far far 'worse' from other artists/women in music videos.

It is getting all this publicity because it's her/the whole disney child turning into the total opposite thing.

Im far more disgusted at the sleaze that is robin thicke.

I feel incredibly sad for her and for my daughters who are growing up in a world where young women think this is necessary! I wrote my blog on it this week if anyone's interested in some in depth outrage!! diamondsanddaisychains.com/outrage-over-twerkgate/

Miley C is to blame. Point. When Rihanna, Beyonce or any young lady of colour dances in a provocative way, the media come down like a tonne of bricks blaming them for indoctrinating young "innocent" girls.

Miley C is desperate to be seen as an adult, and in no way did RT encourage her to gryate in front of his groin like that. Miley had and still has a choice in how she conducts herself, there is no point looking around for someone guilty other than MC.

Although I am no fan of her performance I think it was an act of publicity genius. Look at all the media attention it has grabbed. PR is about as subtle as a sledgehammer nowadays and I think it will massively help her career

There's an interesting blog here by a man who hopes his son doesn't grow up to behave like Robin Thicke, who he thinks is unfairly getting away without criticism.

When I first saw it, I did find it quite funny that Thickos looked so hugely uncomfortable with the whole twerking thing, like he was being treated as a sexual object (rather than a real person), given all the controversy over his blurred lines video. I also am surprised that people are surprised, IYSWIM - I have unfortunately seen the video for MC's song while at the gym a few times, and that's what she does pretty much the whole way through (twerking and weirdy tongue thing).

It's just depressing, this performance and Lady Gaga's as well, both being practically naked the whole way trhough, the sexual overtones etc. etc. and that's what seems to be required to be a successful female star. You don't get a quarter, a tenth, hell, ANY recognition if you're dressed normally, not naked. The fact that it's so common and barely noticed that so many music videos consist of naked/nearly naked woman/girl and fully clothed man just makes me want to cry.

I have fond memories of the 1970s. Watch an edition of Top of the Pops from, say, 1978, and the female singers are mostly wearing jeans and t-shirts and minimal make-up. I don't understand how we've progressed in terms of equality in other areas but in pop young women have to dress like lapdancers.

It's not the fact that her dance is sexual that is so abysmal. It's the fact that she's behaving in a sexually submissive way and to a much older man. It's kind of horrible and creepy, like some middle-aged bloke's sleazy fantasy.
