I fecking LOVE the song Blurred Lines and don't care who knows this.

Flame away....

OP posts:

I don't think the threads Against have been encouraged and I think your right to enjoy rapey lyrics and say so, has been defended.

The video I linked to above has the same catchy tune but celebrated sexuality without demeaning women.

tingsandtings · 25/08/2013 20:16

vicacia I don't see the similarity between the two tbh. The Marvin one was boring. The Blurred lines one much better.

Sheshelob · 25/08/2013 20:21

Someone hasn't got better things to do than start a weak-ass bun fight on MN about a creepy dad dancing anthem.

Living the dream, eh, OP?

Vivacia · 25/08/2013 20:26

I linked to the Mod Carousel one tings not the Marvin song (took me a while to figure out what you were referring to!).

tingsandtings · 25/08/2013 20:28

The link took me straight to Marvin! That's probably why I didn't see a similarity! Thanks. Ill try again...

It didn't for me tings are you using the link I posted at 19:03? Is anyone else having trouble?

Try Googling Mod Carousel Blurred Lines?

Nancy66 · 25/08/2013 20:35

The song is catchy the video is just horrible though.

Bamboobambino · 25/08/2013 20:37

Love it myself.
Also loving the fact you've started a thread to get all the judgey pants lot out in force.

CorrineFoxworth · 25/08/2013 20:39

Jimmy Kimmel did a good parody here

FurryDogMother · 25/08/2013 20:41

Listening to that pile of steaming poo just made me even more grateful that I grew up in the 70s and 80s :D

notnagging · 25/08/2013 20:48

Yabu & a bit thick op. Look up what thikko himself said about the song. Did you not see the goat in reference to beastiality? He thinks its funny & the main model says its okay because her mum is a feminist.Shock
There are so many songs like this around that people just accept as harmless. Champagne showers, superman that ho, blow my whistle baby? All top ten songs that our children are singing. But hey op, at least they've got a catchy tune.Confused

DoJo · 25/08/2013 20:49

I have never heard the song, but after reading about it at length on here, I just googled the lyrics and I am a bit surprised - what exactly are people bothered about in them? It read to me like fairly standard R n B borderline nonsense, but nothing that was overtly misogynistic or violent. Am I now so old that I literally don't understand what the lyrics mean?

InsultingBadger · 25/08/2013 20:57

The song is infuriating - the tune is fantastic but the lyrics are horrendous! Damn you lyrics

Neitheronethingortheother · 25/08/2013 21:06

Just played it there in case I was familiar with it and realised it was the song I was dancing around to earlier today. Doesn't seem too bad to me.

notnagging · 25/08/2013 21:09

The tune is fantastic because he copied it from Marvin Gaye & is now suing his family incase they sue him!

Alisvolatpropiis · 25/08/2013 21:39

I like the song. It's a great tune and I like dancing to it in a club and on my own at home with my friends.

I don't like the video much but it's no different to so many out there I don't see why this one has caused so much outrage in particular.

Look up Push me until I get my satisfaction or put your hands up for Detroit.

ipredicttrouble · 25/08/2013 22:21

Horrendous, lyrics & video are completely wrong on so many levels. Can't find anything good to say about this and yes am aghast that some women find this kind of thing acceptable. Awful. End of.

utreas · 25/08/2013 22:25

YADNBU I think its a great song.

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/08/2013 22:26

Robin, telling us who he is...

?We tried to do everything that was taboo. Bestiality, drug injections, and everything that is completely derogatory towards women. Because all three of us are happily married with children, we were like, ?We?re the perfect guys to make fun of this.?
People say, ?Hey, do you think this is degrading to women?? I?m like, ? Of course it is. What a pleasure it is to degrade a woman. I?ve never gotten to do that before. I?ve always respected women.? So we just wanted to turn it over on its head and make people go, ?Women and their bodies are beautiful. Men are always gonna want to follow them around.??

Blimey, Robin sure lives up to his name.

RobynThicke · 25/08/2013 22:34

I'm quite partial to it too Grin

Alisvolatpropiis · 25/08/2013 22:34

ipredict

I find it amazing women are wringing their hands about this song rather than the bigger issues at play. Lets live and let love eh?

ThedementedPenguin · 25/08/2013 22:36

I really like the song.

Video is a bit stupid but I don't really tend to watch them too often plus it's not like he's the first one to 'degrade' women during a music video. Unfortunately he won't be the last.
