to ask if you can beat this for picnic bingo?!

During picnic today with my DC, I saw a mum of a child around the same age as my DC2 (15 months or so) give her a pack of chocolate biscuits, fruit shoot, and those bacon rasher type crisps things.

All very amusing in an AIBU way, but really, is this what the next generation is being fed? Confused

I doubt if it's what the entire next generation is being fed every single day no. It might well be what kids sometimes have on a picnic though.

Did you manage to eat anything on your picnic or were you too busy clutching your pearls?

is it what YOUR child is being fed? If not then it's not really representative of every 15mth old is it Hmm

On picnics mine will have treats and I often have a can of cider - it is not what we do every day

Odd selection for a 15mo, but provided it wasn't accompanied by a glass of Sav Blanc and a Marlboro, she'll probably be okay.

Ling I think the OP was just looking for a light hearted chat. Nowt wrong with that.

I did recently see a family bring out a massive family sized trifle which they ate first with forks (!) before eating the sandwiches :)

Haha maybe it was me you saw but it was a snack pack of jammy dodgers, I shared a pack of Bacon rasher crisps with him and it was capri sun not fruit shoot. Picnics are for treats and we had fruit and cheese and breast milk too.

If it wasn't me then god forbid there were two toddlers eating junk today!

To be fair, it's late holidays.

Our summer picnics began with pasta salad, sandwiches and fruit, but have now deteriorated to Tangfastics and a six-pack of crisps.

Awful! Whether it was the child's main meal, snacks, or an occasional treat, those are all absolutely dreadful for a young toddler.

I thought this was going to be a thread about amazingly elaborate and fancy picnic fare, but instead it is just a sad one.

Poor baby.

I was in McDonalds for lunch today and I saw a one year old with a fruit shoot, a bag of chips and nuggets. I nearly spat my quarter pounder with cheese out when I saw the poor child's brother dipping the little one's chips in his McFlurry before feeding them to her.
Poor Babba.

The only way I can get my ds to drink is to fill an empty fruit shoot bottle with water. Sometimes with a teaspoon of squash often not but as he has severe constipation it's the only thibg that works. Don't judge on appearances. I do get filthy looks from other mums but they have no idea what it's like to have a child with bad constipation.

WhenI first started going on picnics with baby friends, about 4 years ago, we used to do it all properly: carrot sticks, fruit salad, crusty rolls, hummus, the lot.

One day, we realised that none of our previously bf, lovingly home-prepared food eating, natural yogurt loving, water-drinking pfbs were actually touching anything....until the crisps came out.

Picnics now consist of token cheese butties, crisps, biscuits and breasticks. Occasionally we throw in a bit of fruit, but that's mainly for the wasps. I've never noticed anyone else's picnic - I'm far too busy running away from wasps.

I wouldn't really have noticed if it was a 3yo eating all that crap, but it was an only-just-walking 15 month old. Confused

What the op describes is hopelessly awful food to give to a toddler.

I too thought it would be a fancy picnic food thread.
I remember once i got out picknicked by a couple of mums in a park. I was sat there unloading sandwiches and feeling pretty good about the home made cakes getting out the crisps inferior cheesy puffs and own brand frazzles don'tcherknow.
When behind me these two set up with a camping stove to cook hot dogs and beans flasks of soup home baked bread humous sludgy looking dip and all sorts of homemade looking wonderful things i hung my head in shame

Oh god yes, I've been out-picknicked many times. I've brought along egg sandwiches and an apple sort of thing, uber mums have bought a salad with quinoa and home made cakes for all to share Blush.

Frazzles, sweet biscuits and a fruit shoot for a 15 month old is dismal.

It is dismal, but perhaps okay just for a picnic treat? My daughter usually eats a varied diet but we had a picnic today that included mini sausages, party rings and cheesy balls!
Raisah, I've also done the fruit shoot bottle trick to try to encourage my (previously) extremely constipated child. It's a real battle to get her to drink so would try anything! (Very devious)
