To think you don't use other people's mouthwash?

A very kind neighbour babysat for us recently and I am very grateful and the kids love him.

But last time he was here the kids said they brushed their teeth and used their mouthwash so I said well done for remembering before bed. Then eldest told me yes the babysitter helped me remember to use my mouthwash by showing me with yours! I said oh ok did he use a cup? No, apparently he used the lid like I do!

Am I wrong to think this is a bit random and a bit gross? He is lovely and he is in his 40's so not a young person who isn't aware of boundaries!

I would never say anything and like I say I am grateful to him, but it creeped me out a bit!

If I was happy to have someone in my house looking after my children, I would not have a problem with them using my mouthwash Confused
If you're concerned about germs you can just wash the lid?

Enb76 · 23/08/2013 10:34

I think it's a question of your boundaries. My SIL can't bear anyone drinking out of the same glass as her but I have no issue with it. What exactly do you think will happen? It's not much worse than shaking hands with someone.

Your view is not unreasonable but not everyone thinks like you do. Many of us would have no clue that someone would find it gross.

sooperdooper · 23/08/2013 10:34

Are you for real? No big deal, he babysat for you, you're being silly to be creeped out!!

MotherofDragons82 · 23/08/2013 10:35

YABU and a bit bonkers.

PenguinBear · 23/08/2013 10:38

YANBU! He could have showed them with a cup of water!!

CasperGutman · 23/08/2013 10:39

YABU. Being freaked out by this is one of those things I might do in my head, but wouldn't mention out loud because it would make me seem a bit odd!

Bowlersarm · 23/08/2013 10:40

I wouldn't have given it a second thought.

He thought he was doing the right thing because he was showing your DC's what to do.

LazyMonkeyButler · 23/08/2013 10:43

It wouldn't even occur to me to be bothered about this! When I read the thread title, I thought you meant that someone was using mouthwash that had already been swilled around someone else's mouth! Now that WOULD be gross!

This, not so much Grin.

Bowlersarm · 23/08/2013 10:47

Shock lazy eugh. That had never entered my mind. Now it has! Yuk.

I need to pretend I had never read your post and get that image out of my head.......Grin

Oblomov · 23/08/2013 10:50

YABU and bonkers.
Do you have OCD?

EvieanneVolvic · 23/08/2013 10:52

Yes I thought you meant he was swigging it from the bottle (which I sometimes do with my own private bottle) but sipping from the lid is okay because that can be washed out like any other vessel.

Actually the thought of swigging from my own bottle is now turning my stomach slightly because who knows what it transferring from my own mouth into the bottle. Am now even worried about swigging from a water bottle on the same grounds! Am definitely overthinking this

LittleMissGerardButlerfan · 23/08/2013 10:53

onlomov I do actually have OCD.

Looks like its one of those things that's normal but because I'm a germ freak I find it weird! :o
