To be freaked out at being recognised on Mumsnet by real life friend?

A lady I know from toddler group emailed me to ask me if I am on MN as she thinks she recognises me. Anyway she is right and now I am freaked out because I have posted some VERY personal/confidential embarrassing stuff :(

Eek. Yes, I did tell her it was me - probably a mistake but can't go back now.

So name change.

Or own your shit with pride!

Both work here.

Doubtfuldaphne · 22/08/2013 10:33

That is my worst nightmare!

MrsLouisTheroux · 22/08/2013 10:37

Contact MN HQ and ask them to hide your stuff/ name change. :( for you but why the heck did you say 'yes, that's me' ?

Famzilla · 22/08/2013 10:38

I second owning your shit with pride!

I don't have enough friends to be recognised on MN. But if I ever did I'd kinda be glad someone knew the darkest parts of my life without me having to tell them!

DingDongUhOh · 22/08/2013 10:42

Thanks Guys - I will just own it! MRs Louis - yup, silly me!

I wonder about this as I think I would potentially be recognisable to anyone bored enough to want to try to identify me

I've always worked on the basis that you'd really have to follow a poster pretty closely and check back through a lot of historical posts to be able to identify them.

I also name change if I'm posting anything either very sensitive or which I think clearly identifies me.

Still, this has freaked me out a little bit too.

yellowballoons · 22/08/2013 10:46

I used to have a bit of horror of that too.
Now, for an entirely different reason, I frequently name change, so that gets round the problem.

But originally, I deliberately mentioned something on MN, and she didnt have a clue what MN was. Hurrah!

Sparklingbrook · 22/08/2013 10:46

I wouldn't worry. I doubt she will be doing an advanced search and reading every single thing you ever posted. Don't forget as well Chat only lives for 3 months.

thebody · 22/08/2013 10:48

how rude of her. yes get mumsnet to hide your threads.

Auntfini · 22/08/2013 10:49

I recognised someone this week. I always thought she was an mn-er! Would never tell her though and as we don't tend to go on same topics am unlikely to see her posts v often

MoaningMingeWhingesAgain · 22/08/2013 10:50

you say 'mumsnet? do you mean netmums?' and deny any knowledge.

then name change prontoGrin

melika · 22/08/2013 10:50

I find that hard to believe, out of all of the people, in all of the towns, she recognised it was you. You should of denied it, or say you were jesting.
