to stop using the dishwasher?

We have just come back from hols where we took turns washing up or did it together and it just seemed so much better!

I have been told it is more efficient to use the dishwasher but I think it is a waste of effort to load and unload it especially as it invariably ends up with me doing it!

I am probably thinking nostalgically about this but I remember my parents and i would spend 15 mins together every evening washing, drying and putting away - job done.

Anyone want to join me in dumping the dishwasher?

We lasted 4 days without a dishwasher, have never come so close to divorce.

can I please have your dishwasher? I am bastard sick of dish washing. We're housesitting next week and one of the main motivations is the house has a dishwasher!!! I'm deadly serious.

I don't like them, so I don't have one :) Far too much faff loading and unloading, getting annoyed with other people for not putting stuff in them/putting it in incorrectly - much easier just to do the dishes!

Washing up is the deadest dead time in the history of dead time jobs, I haven't even got a nice view out of the kitchen window to pass the time.

The cold panic I had when our last dishwasher broke down, facing the much longer than 15 mins worth of congealed/welded fat from a roast, will live with me forever

I think your holiday has gone to your head a bit, maybe have a lay down and it'll all be better by morning

I get what you mean about quality time, though. My kids are grown and flown so when I wash up (gruesomeist job) I only have quality time with myself. Dull tbf.

i would kill for a dishwasher! i am forever washing uo, tho at least the elder boys can help now, tho i do wonder when they will learn that if they dont do it properly all that means is they will waste time having to do it again and it would have been much quicker to do it properly in the first place!

Nooooo way would I give up my dishwasher, not ever. It keeps the kitchen tidy, it washes the dishes lovely, it has a nice noise, I love it for many reasons, And it's quite pretty :)

As Agent says you don't unload it yourself if you have a child over the age of 5 in the house.

I load as I go through the day, put it on after dinner clean down and DS1 unloads when he gets up in the morning and is getting his breakfast.

Everything goes in if it can't go in the dishwasher I don't buy it.

Ahh you see I've stopped offering to unload dishwasher in this house as it starts WW3. My dm likes has lots of dishes which are stored in places she only knows exists. Also i'm really clumsy and i think shes scared that by the ebd of week one there won't be any plates or glasses left in the house.

But i agree with op at uni the washing up was so much simpler and easier also the tablets for the bloody thing cost an arm and a leg in comparison with washing up liquid.

I'm aware I will get flamed for this post.

Morloth, you ate a kind mum, my DS has beeb putting hus stuff in.the dishwasher since he was 3! Nearly 5 now, he puts more in for sticksrs. If he gets 100 stickers by his birthday,we're going to the Lego Discovery Centre. He doesn' t know the tickets are ready booked.

What?! It takes me the time it takes to boil the kettle and make a cup of tea to unload it in the morning. OP I expect you will last less than a week. I'd hate to be without a dishwasher now...........

Yanbu- about not having a dishwasher. It's not hard to wash them yourself fgs. Yabu to think of it as valuable time with family, that it just a nostalgic rather fantastical view of a boring necessary job

YANBU ......ditto what sleepywombat said. We bought this house just over 3 yrs ago and the prev owner left her (perfectly good) dishwasher behind along with lots of tablets to go in it. We've nevr used it. There are only the 2 of us though so we would struggle to fill it. Also, if you are going to bother rinsing stuff off you may asell wash it.

I don't understand why people see them as a hassle. You empty first thing in the morning while the kettle is boiling. Put your dirty dishes in it through the day, switch on last thing and that is it.

We love ours, same as ILetHim above, empty first thing & the timer starts it at 02:00 on Economy 7.

We still hand wash the saucepans & cooking implements, it's just the crockery and cutlery that goes in the DW.

Love my dishwasher! No more bickering over whose turn it is to wash up, or having to redo it cos DH has done a crap job of it!
Dishwasher = marriage saver!
