I'm getting the Hmm from dh. It's no different from biscuits is it?

Ooooohhh never tried that. Does it not disintegrate?

I like toast crusts in tea though.

Bowlersarm · 18/08/2013 18:13

YABU

It must make a horrible mess, mustn't it?

fluffyraggies · 18/08/2013 18:14

Mmmmm buttery toast dunked in sweet tea is the food of the Gods!

Not tried it with cake.

somersethouse · 18/08/2013 18:14

My husband does it - it drives me mad.
He gets a spoon and eats the cake at the bottom of the cup - yuk!

KnottedAnchorChief · 18/08/2013 18:15

Yes, you are being unreasonable. Cake should be dunked in beer at this time in the evening. Beer and cake are niiiiiiice.

StuntGirl · 18/08/2013 18:17

So wrong!

Pascha · 18/08/2013 18:20

You need a sturdy cake. Fruit or my mum's jam tart works well.

It'd make crumbs in your tea, surely?! Crumbs in your tea is just wrong!

LondonInHighHeeledBoots · 18/08/2013 21:44

It is very different from biscuits in that one is Biscuit and one is Cake One is for dunking IN (the one that looks like Biscuit) and one is for eating WITH (the one that looks like Cake )

YABU. silly!

Sparrowlegs248 · 18/08/2013 21:51

YABU!!!!ugh!!

AlbertHerbertHawkins · 18/08/2013 22:36

Very wrong

Jan49 · 18/08/2013 22:43

YABU The cake might have fallen in the tea, then you'd have to scoop it out with a spoon or maybe sieve the tea to get the cake back and it would be all soggy and the tea wouldn't be very nice by then.Smile

morethanpotatoprints · 18/08/2013 22:50

Your theories of not dunking a cake because of the mess or indeed the social stigma that may or may not be attached to this and all that bollocks.
What about Macaroons, dunk or nay?

Mummyoftheyear · 18/08/2013 22:51

Wouldn't it crumble and get lost at the bottom of the cup?
Tea and cake are to be enjoyed ... your way Wink
Maybe don't do it when having tea with the Queen, though ;)

Rummikub · 18/08/2013 22:55

Finally! I can share my dirty little secret too! I too am a cake dunker (when no ones looking).

Pascha · 18/08/2013 23:34

Theres an optimum dunking time same as biscuits. A second too long and you bring a while new meaning to the word teacake.
Dunno about macaroons, they're not my favourite but each to their own I suppose. It works very well when confronted with 3-day old homemade sponge that's a little bit dry and solid. Stops it sticking to the roof of your mouth.

Rummikub · 18/08/2013 23:58

Yes to optimum dunking time. Also distance from cup to mouth needs to be considered.

Yonihadtoask · 19/08/2013 00:00

YADBU.

No dunking.

Not allowed in my house.

grrrr......

IsSpringSprangedYet · 19/08/2013 00:07

Grimbo Jimbo.

YABU

jacks365 · 19/08/2013 00:10

Yabu it should be brioche in hot chocolate instead, even better than biscuits.

Rummikub · 19/08/2013 00:11

Slurrp!

ZingWantsCake · 19/08/2013 00:12

There's a scene in "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" where our hero actually pours tea on his cake - obviously dunking isn't enough.

So, there's James Joyce, along with Marcel Proust for cake-and-tea-company.

I sometimes dunk cake in tea, but usually only my husband's tea - I worry too much about the dunked bit getting too tea-logged, dropping off, and falling to the bottom of my cup, only to then choke me unawares as I reach the bottom of my drink.

ZingWantsCake · 20/08/2013 16:47

japan

maybe you could put a little net on your tea mug, like a mini hair net to catch the crumbs? Grin

(going to Dragon's den with mug net idea)
