People who stick their fingers in communal food bowl?

It's MIL. AIBU to say something? I was cooking today and Mil was helping out...I finished mashing a load of potatoes and put them in a big bowl. MIL then RAN her finger around the perimeter of the potato and put it in her mouth...as if this wasn't bad enough she then REPEATED the action with the same finger and said fucking YUM!!!!

Angry Sad

I was so grossed out. Can someone really get to the age of 65 and think this is ok?

I didn't say anything as we've got history and we're getting on better...should I say something next time and if so what?

The reason I want to say something is that it basically ruined dinner for me. I could eat the bloody potato then!

YANBU it is disgusting to put fingers, especially once they have been in your mouth, into a food bowl. However some people just don't get this and I am in no position to advise as I too would have just sat and fumed. I have had words with family members who don't wash hands between handling meat and salad for example as I think that is verging on dangerous but I would worry about coming over as a bit precious for not wanting to share germs with a family member Blush

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 17/08/2013 22:14

That's it Ceclia...and I'm known as being a bit precious...which I am...but I can't help it! I don't want MILS spit in my spuds!

That is hacky. I also hate it when people use a spoon to taste something they've already had in their mouth. Bloody disgusting.

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 17/08/2013 22:59

One DH does that...cooks....stirs, tastes and stirs again. I can JUST cope with DH doing it....after all we kiss etc...but MIL? NO!

Of course, it's ok if it's your other half or kids, that's different. But when you see someone on say 'come dine with me' I just think 'you filthy twat!'.

AgentZigzag · 17/08/2013 23:03

You should have slapped tapped her hand like you would a rude child.

It's OK if it's the family you live with and you know for sure nobody's fussed, but not when the person doesn't like you know you're alright with it.

I'm not bothered about DD's/DH, I probably wouldn't mind MIL, but there are definitely people whose finger mank in my food would put me right off.

AgentZigzag · 17/08/2013 23:04

Plus it's just fucking rude to go into someone else's kitchen and start helping yourself while they're dishing up.

LRDYaDumayuShtoTiKrasiviy · 17/08/2013 23:39

Ewww.

What agent said.

But even if it weren't rude - once, with a clean finger, I could cope with. Twice ... ewww!

YANBU

It's the same with double dipping. Selfish.
