If I don't have a real lemon or lemon juice for my lemon chicken, can I put some lemon squash?

DameFanny · 15/08/2013 16:55

Does that mean we have Gin too?

DameFanny · 15/08/2013 16:55

Arse. As you were.

PeppermintPasty · 15/08/2013 16:57

My mother mistakenly (so she says) made gravy with coffee granules once. Oh how I we laughed as my greedy guts of a sister snaffled all the best roast potatoes for herself and drowned them all in Nescaff.

Happy memories.

PeppermintPasty · 15/08/2013 16:58

ps I know it's spelt Nescafe with a thingy on, before any one has a go.

Cake

Stuff under the skin with butter and garlic and herbs, just as nice.

And have some Cake to celebrate solving your dilemma!

YouStayClassySanDiego · 15/08/2013 17:03

Love the cake Cake Grin cheered me right up.

EarlyIntheMorning · 15/08/2013 17:04

Pepper that's hilarious!

Right, no citrus fruit in sight. Just a sorry manky banana in the fruit bowl as we're off on holidays tomorrow, so garlic chicken it is. I even have parsley. Dried mind you. It's all going to get stuck to the stupid pan anyway...

OP posts:
Groovee · 15/08/2013 17:06

Garlic is much better with herbs

pianodoodle · 15/08/2013 17:08

DH does fancy things with food. I just butter everything - could be an Irish thing!

Butter up that chicken Grin

Onesleeptillwembley · 15/08/2013 17:11

I've heard Vimto chicken is very good.......

EarlyIntheMorning · 15/08/2013 17:12

OP - this reminds me of the vicar of dibley when Mrs Cropley (?) brings along one of her infamous recipes - some sort of meat casserole I think and when the vicar comments on the unusual flavour says "it said to use butternut squash but I only had orange squash so I used that instead" !! Grin

PS don't use lemon flash either! LOL

Longtalljosie · 15/08/2013 17:20

OK so what do you actually have? Do you have red wine vinegar and mustard? There's a Nigel Slater that would work if you have...

EarlyIntheMorning · 15/08/2013 17:24

This is what's happening:

Chicken breasts cut into bitesize chunks, marinated in olive oil, salt, pepper, parsley, cornflour and garlic (out of date mind you).

Yum or what

(what I hear you say...)

OP posts:
Blatherskite · 15/08/2013 17:25

That's a 'best before' date not a 'will poison you after' date. What on earth could go that wrong with a garlic clove that wouldn't be blindingly obvious to the naked eye?

Ezza1 · 15/08/2013 17:30

Goodness me. We are still using the garlic and onions from my dads allotment yield from last summer.

He's yet to give us this years fresh crop.

Trigglesx · 15/08/2013 17:43

as long as it looks okay, it should be fine (the garlic).. garlic chicken is better than lemon chicken anyway! yum...

Tee2072 · 15/08/2013 17:53

So glad you saw sense, OP. I was worried as I read...
