I don't know why, but spaghetti just tastes the best. A good old spag Bol. Not with penne or pasta shells or bows. Spaghetti it must be.

AIBU?

Toast, the day after. A.Maz.Ing.

Irishmammybread · 14/08/2013 23:42

soontobe my DS (who's a student and starting to do his own cooking) told me this evening he's been experimenting and has discovered the gastronomic delight that is rice with bolognaise sauce too!

CreatureRetorts · 15/08/2013 01:50

Rice?! Shock

SconeRhymesWithGone · 15/08/2013 02:25

Fettuccine here. Also do the toast thing with leftovers.

MrsWembley · 15/08/2013 02:42

Fuck me, I'm glad I clicked that link, Crabby!

I'm having that squid asap and as for the courgette, well, let's just say I'm growing some on my allotment and that sounds like a lovely alternative way of getting rid of the feckers eating them.Grin

Oh, and it should be tag Bol, yes, but DP prefers spag and I couldn't care just as long as he eats it! I could live on pasta all day, every day, so really it's no matter to me... But yy, YABU.Grin

MrsWembley · 15/08/2013 02:43

And DP introduced me to the delights of leftover bolognese sauce on toast for breakfast...

ShadowsCollideWithPeople · 15/08/2013 02:55

Jolleigh, I too adore a bowl of bolognese mopped up with buttered crusty bread, which is probably considered an abomination, but is just delicious. I also love Dylan Moran Grin

Jolleigh · 15/08/2013 06:29

ShadowsCollideWithPeople - Wink a lady with taste.

There's so much debate over the pasta here, there'd be carnage if we discussed bolognese recipes (especially with a bonafide Italian in our midst Grin ).

Nothing beats a bolognese cooked from scratch and slow cooked. Divine.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 15/08/2013 06:32

De Cecco linguine or green tagliatelle.
Not shapes though oh no !

Emilythornesbff · 15/08/2013 06:43

YANBU.
Spaghetti bolognaise should not suffer pasta substitutions.
It's called spaghetti bolognaise for a reason ffsGrin

zippey · 15/08/2013 06:53

Why has no one reccomend the good old chip with bolognaise? Beautiful.

Bolognaise pizza is lovely too

Emilythornesbff · 15/08/2013 06:59

theposter mentioned chips on p 2.
You are not alone it seems [grin_]

georgie22 · 15/08/2013 07:09

Has to be De Cecco spaghetti, tagliatelle or linguine; definitely not any sort of pasta shape! Also pasta and sauce has to be mixed in the pan before serving.
Dd loves spaghetti although calls it wiggly worms (tries not to think of that association)!
Mmm should I be thinking of pasta at this time in the morning?

ShadowsCollideWithPeople · 15/08/2013 07:14

Jolleigh, I have an uncle who lives in Rome, my family spend so much time over there that my Dad frequently says that we are Italian at heart. I am generally a puritan when it comes to Italian food (to the extent that, when prepping lasanges with my Mum for a family party recently, I insisted on making the ragu from scratch). Still though, I adore bolognese scooped up with bread. I am indeed a woman of taste Wink. And shall be having bolognese and bread for dinner tonight Grin

filee777 · 15/08/2013 07:20

We would always choose to have spaghetti, but now will try linguini. We usually have penne, just because we buy lots of it for very little and use it in lots of dishes.
Plus it's easy for little hands to grab and eat.

TiggyD · 15/08/2013 07:57

Add some chilly and kidley beans to it and you have chilly con carny.

Mominatrix · 15/08/2013 08:06

YABU - fresh tagilatelle goes best with bolognese, as per the residents of Bologne.

Mominatrix · 15/08/2013 08:06

Bologna!

Jolleigh · 15/08/2013 08:51

Shadows - think I'll be having that too now...it's triggered a whole new pregnancy craving Grin (my OH will be so chuffed...he's wanted red meat for weeks but I've not been able to stand the smell of it cooking).

Might have to watch some Dylan Moran too...after all, I shall be dipping bread in something runnier than bread.

Emilythornesbff · 15/08/2013 09:28

Fwiw my DH officially makes the best meat ragu.

Maybe I should try linguine for a change. I love linguine with seafood, and tagliatelle with peas and cream and Parmesan.

And spaghetti hoops on their own.
This thread is a pita on a fasting day Grin

ThisWayForCrazy · 15/08/2013 09:45

It's called spag Bol, not pen Bol/tag Bol etc.... Simples Wink

CrabbyBigBottom · 15/08/2013 10:25

Grin MrsWembley I'm very glad you like it! The squid puttanesca is bloody delicious and so tender cooked like that - no chewy elastic bands a la badly cooked calamari!

I had pasta the other day and it actually tasted a bit insipid compared to the courgette pappardelle. Just make sure you blot it with kitchen paper and preferably let it dry out a bit. Then cook it quickly in hot butter - no sogginess.

I've had recipe/ photos of a ragu alla sort of bolognese ready to go up on the blog for ages - this has inspired me to put it up now. Wink

CrabbyBigBottom · 15/08/2013 10:26

Oh and I think bread is fine. I bet it'd be nice over fried polenta, too.

Alisvolatpropiis · 15/08/2013 13:57

Yabu.

Tagliatelle or fettuccine.

Spag Bol is an entirely British dish no Italian would actually cook.

Crinkle77 · 15/08/2013 15:24

I find spaghetti really annoying to eat. I can't seem to control it on my fork and end up choppijg it up in to little pieces so I can eat it without slopping it everywhere.
