I don't know why, but spaghetti just tastes the best. A good old spag Bol. Not with penne or pasta shells or bows. Spaghetti it must be.

AIBU?

Don't confuse me with talk of tagliatelle or similar

MIL claims that she doesn't like spaghetti, only pasta. That's not a thing is it? Surely it is the same stuff in a different shape?

Annunziata · 14/08/2013 20:42

Tagliatelle is flat strips of pasta, wider than linguine.

FieryChipotle it's kind of possible because spaghetti is just a type of pasta (which just means dough), I suppose she means she doesn't like how spaghetti holds the sauce, and of course it has its own texture.

CreatureRetorts · 14/08/2013 20:46

I know what it is - I meant I'm getting confused now as to whether they would actually taste as good as spaghetti Grin

Annunziata- She says its the taste! I told her that I was doing spaghetti for lunch and she was practically dry heaving! Madness!

Jolleigh · 14/08/2013 21:01

Fiery...I think spaghetti tastes differently because of its smoother texture. Tastes slimey to some I suppose. Dry heaving might be a bit much though lol

Loving the idea of bolognese with gnocchi Smile

Is it wrong that I sometimes make bolognese to just dip crusty bread into? (Very Dylan Moran!)

massistar · 14/08/2013 21:09

Going to be even more poncey and say it has to be egg tagliatelle Smile

Annunziata · 14/08/2013 21:10

I think it is madness too, I would be dousing her in holy water Grin But I can understand what she means.

Honestly, try tagliatelle, OP. I'm Italian and everything.

EmmaBemma · 14/08/2013 21:11

naah, massistar. Egg pasta is nicest with simple sauces I think - not really worth it with something heavy like ragu.

CreatureRetorts · 14/08/2013 21:12

I've had it with carbonara (tag) and it is yummy. Not even thought of it with bol - you've reminded me of its existence.

Does angel hair count? I like the English way of doing it as that means I can be in charge of how much sauce I get in each mouthful, rather than everything being mixed up together. Plus I love twirling spaghetti which is probably terribly declasse too!

TiggyD · 14/08/2013 21:13

But it already comes in a tomato sauce in the tin! Confused

slightlysoupstained · 14/08/2013 21:14

I guess animal shapes are right out then?

Annunziata · 14/08/2013 21:18

Angel hair in bolognese?! Shock Nooooooo!

Hadmeathello · 14/08/2013 21:21

Yanbu. That is all.

ThePosterBelowMeSucks · 14/08/2013 21:21

Well you're all wrong, bolognaise tastes best with homemade chips. Amateurs...

hugoagogo · 14/08/2013 21:22

Tagliatelle, but no bolognaise, peas cream and lots of black pepper for me.

Jolleigh · 14/08/2013 21:46

I think I'm being thick here but...

Is angel hair pasta not a dessert pasta??

princesskc · 14/08/2013 21:51

Gnocchi all the way, stirred in so its all coated. Yummy!

apachepony · 14/08/2013 21:55

We were all out of spaghetti the other day, so had to use tagliatelle. After tasting, I tell you it's tag Bol all the way now

revealall · 14/08/2013 21:57

YANBU.
It's best with the long spaghetti that no sodding supermarkets seem to sell anymore. I have no idea why it tastes better but it really does.

AndHarry · 14/08/2013 22:11

YABU. Green tagliatelle all the way, yum. With loads of Parmesan cheese and cayenne pepper.

Green tagliatelle, creme fraiche, sundried tomatoes, crisped-up Parma ham, black pepper and a squeeze of lemon juice is also scrumptious.

OnTheBottomWithAWomensWeekly · 14/08/2013 23:26

No, capellini, or angel hair pasta, is just a thin spaghetti basically, used in very light sauces, sometimes with seafood. There is no traditional shape for dessert pasta, though ive seen choc fettucine before and sweet raviolis.

CrabbyBigBottom · 14/08/2013 23:32

It doesn't have to be tagliatelle etc... this has a really good texture and holds a sauce well. Lovely al dente feel to it and even my DP, who's never liked courgette, prefers this to pasta now.

Otherwise, pasta shapes with a ragu sauce is an abomination. Tagliatelle is best, linguine or spaghetti ok. Or lasagne, obviously.

soontobeburns · 14/08/2013 23:33

I dont really like pasta so I will say YABU and its best with rice.
