Any random word in a thread, highlighted.

Thread about the evils of Tesco advertising Tesco, Hmm mm great product placement there. Various other adverts and shite I do not give a rats arse about.

I come here for gossip and help, not to be sold stuff.

Never noticed this before, are they new? And are they doing everyone's head in or just me?

Well, it IS a FREE site afterall - how do you think they pay for stuff?

Get Ad Blocker if you really object.

dexter73 · 14/08/2013 11:36

I suppose MN is a free website so they use the advertising to make money. I prefer to have the adverts and not pay to use MN.

ThedementedPenguin · 14/08/2013 11:39

It sounds like you have a virus or something on your computer.

LazyFaire · 14/08/2013 11:45

Have they always been here then? maybe my ad blocker is broken...

That's not normal if words are highlighted. I'd check your computer and update your ad blocker.

WorraLiberty · 14/08/2013 11:50

I've got no highlights on any of my words.

SconeInSixtySeconds · 14/08/2013 11:51

Hmm. This does not sound right, it isn't highlighted for me. Links normally only with the squarey brackets....

PurplePidjin · 14/08/2013 11:51

It's how MNHQ raise the hundreds of thousands of pounds needed to keep a site this big running without charging users. Suck it up.

SconeInSixtySeconds · 14/08/2013 12:05

Pidj, it sounds as though the op is talking about words inside a thread that she hasn't linked are showing up as links... And that isn't normal.

I had that once, it's your pc, not Mumsnet. I can't remember how i got rid of it though, it was a while ago.

LilyBossom · 14/08/2013 12:11

It is called text enhance malware and you need to erase it from your machine - it isn't on Mumsnet.

mercury7 · 14/08/2013 12:11

I think it means that some program or other has downloaded it self onto your PC, a virus scan might get rid of it, or if you look at the list of installed programs you might be able to spot it and un install
