To be annoyed that I have a lovely dress waiting for me at BHS that I cannot collect.

My mum recently came to stay, she lives 140 miles away and doesnt come to stay that often, as its easier for all if we visit her (she doesnt like driving on the motorway and I dont like to think of her having to keep stumping up huge rail fares).
She very kindly bought me a new dress from BHS as she wanted to give me a treat for losing loads of weight (feel about 5 now Blush ). They didnt have the colour I would like in stock so she ordered it to be delivered in store, under my name, my address, my email address, my tel no, everything.
The dress has now arrived and I was very excited.
However, I cannot collect it. I do not have my mothers bank card. I have all the order receipts/confirmations/proof of ID, but as I do not have the card in my posession I cannot collect it.
They asked if I had the card and I said no and explained that it was a gift my mother lives far away and wont be visiting again til probably christmas, by which time they wouldve sent it back uncollected. Their only suggestion was to get my mum to post her card and then I post it back to her. seriously wtf??
At no point when we ordered were we told that I would need her card (if we were we would not have bothered as it is impossible).
I am so annoyed.

Thats ridiculous.

can't you complain ( a bit higher than someone in a call centre)

toomuchtoask · 14/08/2013 11:21

Can the card be photocopied?

jennycoast · 14/08/2013 11:22

That's ridiculous. I've never ordered from BHS, but often do from M&S, and they only need a flash of ID and an order number. Infact, DH has even picked stuff up for me, so the ID bit presumably isn't even that important. I'd ask to speak to someone else in store.

CaptainSweatPants · 14/08/2013 11:23

no wonder bhs is closing

ours is turning into a Primark - hurrah!

SuperiorCat · 14/08/2013 11:23

YANBU that is ridiculous. Prob not the SAs fault - they are just following procedure. Go higher and complain.

thornrose · 14/08/2013 11:23

Can your mum scan the card and email it to the shop?

It's really bad customer service though given your circumstances.

littlewhitebag · 14/08/2013 11:23

Could your mum write a letter authorizing you to collect the dress with her card details in it? They could keep the letter with her signature.

mum23girlys · 14/08/2013 11:25

Email head office. M&S website says im the small print that you need the card as proof but I've never been asked for it. Also says you need driving licence or passport. Again never been asked. Maybe driving licence might be suitable id if you ask someone higher up. Good luck

I think we would have to try that little, my mum has a copier/printer/scanner etc, but doesnt know how to use them.

Contact them on their Facebook page. Customer services are MUCH better (IMHO) on social media than when on the phone with no one else listening! There must be a simple way around this that they could suggest.... Link to this thread as well, that should help.

The joys of BHS! 3 out of 5 secondary schools in the town wear blue school shirts. BHS only stock white school shirts Sad

I am thinking that if the dress was sent to the shop then (like whenever I get school shirts) its available on the website? Check it then if it is get your mum to order it from there and sent to you?

Ah - then I don't know how she'd get refunded for the one sitting in the shop. Hmm.

Congrats on the weight loss btw!

filimou · 14/08/2013 11:35

Thanks Mandy. We thought delivery in store would be easier as I work full time and am rarely home (im on me break, honest) and the sorting office is a pain in the arse to get to....plus delivery in store has the added bonus of being free.

lighttrain I had not really thought of social media......thank you

CaptainSweatPants - I think we're in the same city! Exciting.

OP - You should go in with all the ID and speak to the store manager. Ridiculous. What if her card had been lost/stolen - what would they do then?
