Cut a long story short I'm bfeeding 1yr old DD I noticed as slightly large pertruding lump on my breast which I thought was a blocked duct. Went to GP she says she doesn't think it if a duct but a cyst? She said she thinks there may be 3 in there and she will refer me to breast clinic for ultrasound. Abd not to worry yea right I'm so scared and suffer anxiety as it is Ainu to not trust her diagnosis ?

did you ask her for any meds?

Roshbegosh · 13/08/2013 17:48

Trust the doctor, the scan is just to reassure you and I doubt anything nasty could appear so quickly.

Lonelybunny · 13/08/2013 17:49

Hi Lemi no she said its likely a cyst , wondering if anyone else has had this ? She was being nice but it's a worry , I'm hoping I'm worrying for nothing

Breast clinic referral should be pretty speedy Bunny (normally within 3 weeks)

I'm not going to tell you not to worry , as no one in their right mind wouldn't worry !
I will say that 9 out of 10 lumps are nothing nasty .

I've been through the whole process if you have any qs .

Lonelybunny · 13/08/2013 17:50

That's what I was thinking rosh as it virtually appeared overnight but just wondered how she can tell just by a prod but I guess she has seen it a lot .

If it's firm and smooth and moveable it shouldn't be anything sinister. That's what I was told when I had my breasts scanned. There was nothing there apart from the usual stuff.

eurochick · 13/08/2013 17:52

I have had a very painful breast cyst and various other lumps and bumps. They have all been found to be nothing to worry about (although do worry because two thirds of the women in my family have had breast cancer!).

KissMeHardy · 13/08/2013 17:53

The 2 times I have had breast lumps my GP told me they were benign cysts - and he was right. I think they can tell by how they feel and move.

Hope all is well and you get to the hospital soon.

marriedinwhiteisback · 13/08/2013 17:54

It will be fine. I have cystic breast disease and have had lump after lump for years - all cysts. They keep a careful eye just in case and I'm 53, post menopausal and on HRT. At worst they will aspirate the cyst to make sure there are no nasties lurking - it would be wrong if they didn't. It's totally painless and you will be relieved.

Good luck and keep us up to date x

I'm having a cyst removed from my groin on Friday, it's moveable & a little painful if pressed-my doctor diagnosed it on sight.

The scan is to reassure you, try not to worry.

plim · 13/08/2013 17:55

I had bf cysts with all 3 of my dcs. I'm not a dr but he's my thoughts - mine moved around ie weren't fixed, they feel quite hard about the size of a broad bean and one bout the size of chupa chup lolly - sorry couldn't think if another comparative!

I had the ultrasound with each and all were bf ducts and apparently nothing to worry about. The breast cancer specialist I saw said they are very common and they don't treat them unless they are large or very painful.

Please try not to worry, it really is common to get lumps when bf - I'm sure your gp knows what they're talking about and an ultrasound will give you peace of mind.

Hug x

The hospital just rang to see me Saturday but I'm
Away such a shame :( but at least they are getting me seen quickly . The GP said it is round and mobile so that's good .

where are you going on holiday lonely? Could you go a day later - only because i know you are going to be tearing your hair out and i want you to relax and enjoy your holiday. I think its such a good thing you are having these scans and this will put your mind at rest. Can you ring the clinic and ask to be on standby just in case theres a cancellation earlier in the week. This is only because i know how much you worry.

TheOnlyPink · 13/08/2013 18:23

I'm currently seeing the breast clinic for a cyst. Started as a small lump in december, i didn't think it felt moveable and went straight to go. She was very confident it was a cyst, said i had several I couldn't feel.

3 weeks ago ot got very large and painful, got referred to breast clinic 2 days later. The speed freaked me out, but after an ultrasound and a good check they said it was a cyst and they drained it. On antibiotics for the 3 weeks and they have seen me twice a week in the breast clinic, back again tomorrow. Not sure what will happen long term.

I don't want to say not to worry, but in my experience they wouldn't tell you it was a cyst unless they were very sure.

keeping everything crossed for you op, its so bloody scary.

TheOnlyPink · 13/08/2013 18:24

Bloody phone, i went straight to GP at first!

Lonelybunny · 13/08/2013 21:23

I'm going abroad so can't change it , I will call them tommorow and see if they can squeeze me in. I did virtually beg her on the phone but she said she had nothing until I get back. I'm glad the GP was pretty sure it's a cyst tho but still can't help but worry :(
