DH dropped calpol in the toilet...

I told him he needed to go and get more (8 week old son had jabs today, including rotavirus- was warned by nurse to be particularly careful with toilet type bacteria). He got in a huff and told me to use the sachets after they had been in the toilet. I refused. I can't get it myself as I can't drive and it will be a 40 min walk in the dark to get it. Who is bu, me or him?

Does your son need the calpol? If he's ok then don't worry about it too much. In my experience, if it's going to affect them it makes itself known fairly quickly!

But HIBU, lazy sod.

thebody · 12/08/2013 21:54

I wouldn't use them either. however if ds is ok don't worry. not all babies have reactions to injections.

he should get some in tomorrow though.

he sounds a bit lazy op.

tinkertitonk · 12/08/2013 22:08

Assuming that the sachets were sealed when dropped, wash them off and use them.

Sirzy · 12/08/2013 22:59

I would bin them but wouldn't rush out for more. If there is a problem overnight you can always send him out for some then but most likely you won't need them and it will be fine to replace tomorrow.

YABU. Just give them a quick rinse and dry them. Wash then with a bit of soap, if you like. The toilet is flushed with the same water you use to brush your teeth.

Oh, and next time buy the bottled stuff - it's cheaper and more easily washed if you drop it in the loo.

londonchick · 12/08/2013 23:05

Yep if sachets ok just rinse them and use them!

ILoveAFullFridge · 12/08/2013 23:06

I take back the YABU. I still think you can use the sachets, but 8w PN, on the day of the jabs, you are entitled to a wobbly. Smile

Utterly stupid to take a risk with giving an 8 week old a sachet that had been in the toilet. Your dh is being vu.

That said, the baby prob won't need calpol but if he does, your dh will have to go to a 24 hour place.

Fairyegg · 12/08/2013 23:11

I wouldn't risk giving the calopol to a 8 week old. Do any of us know how water tight these sachets are? What about bleach, germs etc? Hopefully your baby won't need any, but your dh is ibu.

ChippingInHopHopHop · 12/08/2013 23:11

There's no way I'd use anything that had been dropped in the toilet. Yes, it's the same water you brush your teeth with, but most people don't poo & wee in the bathroom sink - with that analogy you might as well rinse your toothbrush in the loo instead of under a running tap Hmm

He is being a lazy, ridiculous twat and needs to realise being a parent is full of annoying little things that need doing at inconvenient times!!

However, I'd settle for him going out at 2am if DS needs it.

Envious of 8 week old snuggles!!

ShadowMeltingInTheSun · 12/08/2013 23:31

I wouldn't use the sachets after they'd been dropped in the toilet. Or anything else that would have to go into someone's mouth. There's an unnecessary risk of exposing your baby to toilet type bacteria.

Your husband is being unreasonable, but it is possible that your DS might be okay without the Calpol.

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/08/2013 05:20

Do any of us know how water tight these sachets are? I imagine completely since they are filled with liquid. Otherwise the liquid would fall out. I would wash with water and soap and use. Any microbiologists about?

I think I would feel a bit yuk but I would bet the farm it's completely safe if you wash them thoroughly. Otherwise all the rat poo and wee in the warehouse would get into the Calpol and poison all of us.

num3onway · 13/08/2013 05:31

Urgh I would have to bin them afraid!

MrsMook · 13/08/2013 07:33

If there was no other option in the house, I'd wash, disinfect and use. They will be well sealed up. You would know if Calpol leaked as it's so disgustingly sticky.

YouStayClassySanDiego · 13/08/2013 09:09

Hope the night went ok.

Personally I wouldn't have used them after they'd been in the toilet bowl.

Incidentally, did he go and get more as you asked?
