I started the thread about my sil and had a few people saying I was working the benefits system because me and dp live counties apart and I thought we should be claiming separately (genuinely didn't realise). Anyway I rang them today, explained the situation and yes we should claim as a couple and we will get an extra £60 a month. Dp was paying for childcare before and now because we're a joint claim we can get help with the costs. and I can now afford my new goat
So all well that's ends well, cheers

He's your partner, you have children, financially you live as husband and wife, you income/outgoings are joined. That's pretty simple.

Honestly, why has it become ok for people to judge when they don't know the system or the facts, or even care about the detail.

We don't who. We split before Christmas and he left to move back with ils got a job etc. we decided to try again but do long distance rather than him leave his job so soon and look unreliable plus with no job up here to come to it would have been a strain.
I just thought that since we barely see each other, pay separate things etc we couldn't but happy to be told I was wrong

I was unreasonable on the actual thread subject as well but I happily accept that.
